Big shoes to fill.

The ACT Node has had a big change during the COVID-19 crisis.  Professor Jagadish has stepped down as Director, and Professor Tan has stepped up from his Deputy Director position, filling some pretty big shoes.

Due to COVID-19, there was no celebration to say our goodbyes from the Node and head office, but maybe there will be one when we all get back to normal.  Thank you to the ANFF head office who created a beautiful thank you to Jagadish with his achievements and honours, to view this please click here.

We all wish you well Jagadish, and thank you for your kindness and passion to the Node over the years.

See you around the hallways of RSPhys ANU!

Direct solar hydrogen production with breakthrough efficiency.

After sustained efforts into the improvement of performance and cost competitiveness, photovoltaic cells have become commercially viable and are seeing a rampant large-scale deployment. Achieving global renewable energy transition further relies on addressing the intermittency of renewables through the development of transportable energy storage means. An elegant and potentially economical route to storing solar power is to convert the energy from sunlight directly into hydrogen, analogous to the photosynthesis process exploited by nature.

Prof. Hoe Tan has a vast experience in nanofabrication and immense knowledge in compound semiconductors. Prof. Hoe Tan received his B.E. (Hons) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Melbourne in 1992, after which he worked with Osram in Malaysia as a quality assurance engineer. In 1997, he was awarded the PhD degree from the Australian National University for his dissertation on "Ion beam effects in GaAs-AlGaAs materials and devices". He has been the past recipient of the Australian Research Council Postdoctoral, QEII and Future Fellowships. He has contributed to over 450 journal papers and 6 book chapters.
