Introducing, Suubi Helpline

At Uganda Youth and Adolescents Health Forum, we are excited to officially launch the Suubi Helpline a 24/7 #youth4youth telephone service that provides accurate information, counselling support and timely referrals services for sexual and reproductive health services, maternal health care and sexual and gender-based violence committed against young people in Uganda and mostly adolescent girls and young women.

Many adolescent girls and young women in Uganda are increasingly reporting cases of sexual exploitation and abuse, gender based violence, child marriages and are denied access to essential sexual and reproductive health information and services such as; contraception, maternal health care, post rape care services, safe abortion and post abortion care services. This is mainly due to discrimination, social stigma, lack of information and poor referral pathways. The situation has only worsened with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic which has only compounded existing gender inequalities.

The Suubi Helpline will therefore seek to address these gaps by providing an opportunity for many vulnerable young people and especially adolescent girls and young women to;

  • Access accurate SRHR information
  • Report cases of sexual exploitation and abuse, domestic violence and early and forced marriages
  • Access referrals for essential sexual and reproductive health services including; Post rape care support, contraception/family planning services, maternal health care and post abortion care, HIV  and STI services.
  • Access referrals to partners that can facilitate justice.
  • Access referrals to safe spaces/shelter homes for survivors of all forms violences.
  • Access psychosocial support counselling
