Events This Weekend

Join the Juneteenth celebration, June 19

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. For information about the Albany Juneteenth online celebration on Saturday, click here.

Join the Poor People’s Assembly and Moral March on Saturday, June 20

The Mass Poor People's Assembly & Moral March on Washington is going digital! On June 20th, we will hold the largest digital and social media gathering of poor and low-income people, moral and religious leaders, advocates, and people of conscience in this nation’s history. A global pandemic is exposing even more the already existing crisis of systemic racism, poverty, ecological devastation, the war economy and militarism, and the distorted moral narrative of religious nationalism. On June 20, the 140 million poor and low-income people across this nation will be heard! Register to join us! The 2.5-hour program will broadcast on Saturday, June 20th at 10 am and 6 pm EST, and again on Sunday, June 21st at 6 pm EST
