Meetings for Healing

with a Concern for a Broken Nation

Wednesdays at noon

We are all invited to meetings for healing on Wednesdays at noon.  Ministry and Worship Committee extends a special invitation to those who are working – at home or otherwise – to take a pause to share in the healing and the spiritual nourishment of mid-week worship.  Everyone is welcome, whether or not you can join for the full hour.  Read a description of meetings for healing here.  Zoom information for Wednesday will be in Silent Announcements on Tuesday.

... because Black Lives Matter

Refueling for Justice

Daquanna Harrison is leading the efforts to organize Refueling for Justice, a free, online event taking place Saturday, June 27th where those who have been striving for justice can refuel for the long-haul with meditation, movement, children's activities, art, and music. Adelphi Friends can support this event in three key ways: 1) donating to keep the event free for all, 2) attending or advertising the event, and 3) volunteering to staff a "tech support shift" during the Zoom webinar. Visit www.refuelingforjustice.com to donate, sign-up to attend, and learn more. You can also contact Sarah Gillooly

Queries from Sierra Cascades Yearly Meeting

During its recent annual sessions, Sierra Cascades Yearly Meeting of Friends examined its own role and the role of Quaker meetings and individuals in perpetuating racism.  The meeting adopted a "Minute for Black Lives" including an acknowledgement of and apology for white privilege and the benefits of white supremacy throughout Quaker history and in the present.  See the minute and six challenging queries here.

A Hymn to Freedom

Phil Callahan shares "A Hymn to Freedom" with Friends. The song was composed in the 60's by one of the great jazz pianists, Oscar Peterson; it reflects his background growing up in the African American Church in Montreal, Canada. The lyrics were added by a friend of Peterson's and the song was picked up and used by the civil rights movement. Listen here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTAzDaAOtmI

Adelphi Meeting Community News

A Letter from the Clerk

Our Clerk, Carol Hoage, writes to begin conversations about an Adelphi Friends Meeting process for reopening our meeting.  Her letter, here, also notifies us about some small group discussions on the topic, to take place in the week of July 5.

Heavy Lifters Needed

As soon as possible!

Heather Carter would like some help. A few weeks ago, her basement workshop flooded in a rainstorm. She was able to get the water out, but she needs to remove some heavy furniture so that the carpet can be taken out to prevent mold. With concerns for people staying safe from the spread of Covid-19, Heather would like to hire two rather strong people to move the furniture out, and then to move it back in when the carpet is installed. Rate is negotiable.

Friends Returning to the Area:  Housing, Anyone?

Phillip and Mary Ann Payette are planning to move back to the area and would like to rent a small place for a month or two, or perhaps as long as six months if that's what it takes to find the right apartment/house for the long term. Any rentals? or ideas?  Please call 518-495-0118 or email ilium@outlook.com.

To Submit an Item for Silent Announcements

Send a message to the editor via an on-line form. Provide essential information (date, time, etc.). Feel free to add informal notes in the description box.  The editor is probably going to edit it anyway.

During the pandemic, Silent Announcements are sent out on Tuesdays and Fridays at about noon.  Please submit items before 10 a.m. on those two days.

To Schedule a Virtual Committee Meeting

Send the info below to:  Zoom2@adelphifriends.org

Your e-mail should include at least the following information:
(1) the title of the meeting (e.g. Finance Committee meeting),
(2) the date and time,
(3) recurring or one time only – if it is recurring, what is the schedule (2nd Tuesday of the month), including beginning and ending dates,
(4) contact person, and
(5) any special considerations (e.g., you need a technical person to help out or to host, you need someone to control breakout rooms).

Note that the specific Zoom invitation info for these committee meetings should NOT be put in Silent Announcements.  Instead put in the Silent Announcement a contact person who will forward the zoom invitation to the committee members.  You can also just send the zoom info directly to the committee members without a Silent Announcement.
