Dear members of The Frost Place Community,

In light of recent events, we at The Frost Place would like to make it clear that we unequivocally deplore all instances of violence and aggression that are damaging and destructive to the human spirit. The ongoing and recent  events of systemic racism in this country make it imperative that we actively continue to build a sustainable community through respectful listening, engaging in deep thought and conversation, and by responding to events and each other with care and compassion. We pride ourselves on our ongoing commitment to hearing all voices, especially those of peoples who have long been undervalued and unheard. We would like to say some of the names of those who have been silenced: Ahmaud Arbery. Rayshard Brooks. Michael Brown. Philando Castile. George Floyd. Eric Garner. Trayvon Martin. Tony McDade. Tamir Rice. Breonna Taylor. These are just a few names on an endless list.

Here are the actions that we are taking:

·  A continued commitment to a diverse and racially inclusive faculty at all of our poetry programs.

  ·  A continued commitment to creating a more diverse board of directors.

·  More scholarship opportunities for BIPOC poets.

. More scholarship opportunities for BlPOC LGBTQIA+ Poets.

 ·  More robust community poetry programming in our schools that celebrates the literature and poetry of the communities of people of color.

Our commitments and action plans do not begin or end here. Increased diversity in faculty, fellows, and program participants is something that The Frost Place formally committed to in 2011. We remain committed and continually strive to offer new programs and opportunities. We are constantly developing new ways to honor and serve our BIPOC poets. We hope that you too will stand with us in this fight against systemic racism.
