I suspect your 2020 has looked a little different to what you pictured back in January... and yet here we are, almost at the end of June! (which also marks the End of Financial Year here in Australia).

After commencing the 2020 school year in January, schools, colleges and universities in Zambia were ordered to close on 20 March 2020. On the 1 June, schools were allowed to re-open for the examination grades (grade 7, grade 9 and grade 12) only. A number of additional cleaning and mask protocols needed to be implemented to enable this reopening. (Ba Kelvin, we miss your smile!)
For our Ukufuma students, these college closures meant that they were required to continue their studies online. Our students were using USBs to download their work and then attempt to borrow friends laptops, use the school computers (when there was power) or their phones to access the lessons. The stress and instability during this period was making it harder for them to do their best work. We have been able to purchase 10 laptops in Zambia, which are now available to the students so they can continue their studies. Thank you for your generous donations which support the various programs of Eagles Wings.

Through a recent series of Facebook and Instagram posts, we challenged you (and ourselves) to reflect on how you would deal with the realities of Covid-19 outside of our relatively comfortable Australian (and New Zealand) bubble. We encourage you to be generous and kind throughout life's challenges and to continue partnering with us as we seek to prayerfully assist the vulnerable children in Zambia to realise and reach their God given potential.

In this EW News, you will find our 2019 summary of programs and finances. I hope that you are inspired by these details as you see the scope and variety of work carried out by Eagles Wings.

The circumstances of 2020 have caused us to postpone our Challenge For Change events this year and given that this accounted for almost a quarter of our income in 2019, we are anticipating the flow on financial effects may impact us for some time. However, with his bike at the ready, Reid Anderton will be using his skills both on the bike and in the building industry to raise funds to be used now and also to set up a long term income stream for Eagles Wings, through Charity Build*. The "Fastest to 10,000km" cycling event kicks off on Wednesday 1 July 2020 - check it out here. You can also see updates on Reid's ride via his personal Facebook page.
