Dear Orange Lutheran Families,

We pray this message finds you doing well and enjoying the many blessings that come along with summertime!

We are excited to announce that our phased approach for reopening athletics will begin this week with the onboarding of our staff, finalization of all safety protocols, and facilitating equipment pick up for athletes.  On Monday, June 29, our first phase of summer athletics is scheduled to begin with cross country, football, and Spiritleaders.  The following week, Monday, July 6, tennis and water polo plan to start.  Girls volleyball would then follow in this phased rollout plan. All other programs will continue to be phased in based on their previously planned summer schedules and facility availability.

As we have diligently planned for this safe return to athletics, please be assured that all of our protocols, procedures, and practices fall within the guidelines set forth by the CDC, state, and regional health and safety organizations.  In addition, Orange Lutheran has a robust Sports Medicine staff who are highly qualified and certified allied healthcare providers (ATCs).  This team is collaborating with our supervising physicians on all of our health and safety plans for our return to athletics.  They are working diligently to address all factors and potential scenarios during this time of change.  This team will continue to monitor and track all guidelines provided by the previously referenced health organizations and make the required adjustments to their plans accordingly.

Some specific initiatives involve, but are not limited to:
  • Implementing proper sanitization procedures for all spaces, items, and/or surfaces.
  • Planning for continued social distancing by creating modified practice and training plans that include athletes working out in groups of 10 or fewer in the current reopening phase.
We are working closely with CIF as well as studying and implementing the guidelines set forth by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) to ensure that we are utilizing best practices for our athletes' health and safety, which is always our number one priority.

This summer in-person athletic participation is completely voluntary because we understand each family has different concerns in our current environment. We want each athlete to feel comfortable and safe regarding their health and proximity to others prior to participating in any sport or other activity associated with Orange Lutheran. In addition, our coaching staff remains committed to working virtually with athletes as needed moving forward.  Staying connected with our athletes is important to us, as we want our teams to remain bonded during this time.

Our approach to reopening athletics is based on a conservative staged plan that includes starting some sports sooner than others.  More specific details about practice times and items needed for practices for each sport will be communicated by the head coach of each program. For the athletes who would like to participate in planned athletics this summer, the steps listed below will be required in order to uphold the health and safety of our entire community.
  • Arrival to Campus - Each time a student arrives on campus, he or she will proceed through the following Student Screening Process.
  • Participation Agreement - In order for athletes to participate in any activity associated with Orange Lutheran High School, this Athletic and Extracurricular Activities Informed Consent must be acknowledged and submitted prior to the student’s participation.
  • FamilyID - Please reference these directions to help you navigate the FamilyID system.
    • All new student-athletes must register with FamilyID and create a 2020-2021 online profile. Once completed, families should upload a current athletic physical to that profile.
    • All returning student-athletes can log into FamilyID using the same credentials as the previous year, they do not need to create a new profile. They simply need to register for the new 2020-2021 school year.
    • Athletic participation (including tryouts) will not be allowed until each athlete completes a FamilyID profile and an athletic physical has been completed and approved.
    • Family ID can be accessed here or through the OLu Athletics website, oluathletics.org.
  • Transporting Students - Families will be required to provide their own transportation to and from Orange Lutheran or any off-site facilities/venues for athletics. Coaches will not be permitted to transport students this summer.

We look forward to seeing our student-athletes back on campus soon! If you have questions regarding our plans, please contact the Response Team at responseteam@lhsoc.org.
