Construction Update
A new chapter has begun at Sánchez Elementary. Construction began this spring to create a 21st-century learning space for the Sánchez and Metz community. Here is an update on progress to date.
- Demolition work inside the buildings is complete. The construction crew has removed the interior walls, carpet, insulation and more to make way for brand new equipment and finishes.
- Outside, the crew is currently removing the existing courtyard that will become the learning stair in the modernized school.
- This month, the team will begin to install new pipes for plumbing and air ducts for the heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment.
- The Sánchez mural has been safely removed, packed in foam and protected in climate-controlled storage until construction is complete and it can be re-hung in the school.

Preserving Our Mural
The Sánchez mural by Raúl Valdez is a community treasure. In the modernized school, the mural will hang in a prominent space above a collaboration area and will be viewable from the first and second floors. Watch a video that documents the steps being taken to care for the mural during construction.

Around the District
Austin ISD’s 2017 Bond Program is moving full steam ahead. The district commemorated milestones at several elementary school campuses last month, including a virtual community event for new Bear Creek Elementary School and virtual groundbreaking events for Brentwood, Casis and Hill elementary schools. Novedades sobre la construcción
Arrancó un nuevo capítulo en la primaria Sánchez. La construcción arrancó esta primavera para crear un espacio de aprendizaje del siglo XXI para la comunidad de Sánchez y de Metz. A continuación presentamos las novedades sobre el progreso hasta ahora.
- La obra de demolición del interior de los edificios está completa. La cuadrilla de construcción retiró los muros interiores, el tapete, el aislamiento y más para dejar lugar a equipos y terminaciones nuevos.
- En el exterior, la cuadrilla está actualmente quitando el patio actual que pasará a ser el espacio de la escalinata de aprendizaje en la escuela modernizada.
- Este mes, el equipo empezará a instalar nuevas tuberías para fontanería y conductos de aire para los equipos de calefacción, ventilación y aire acondicionado.
- El mural de Sánchez ha sido retirado con cuidado, se guardó en hule espuma y está protegido en un depósito con temperatura controlada hasta que se complete la construcción y se pueda volver a colgar en la escuela.

La preservación de nuestro mural
El mural de Sánchez de Raúl Valdez es un tesoro de la comunidad. En la escuela modernizada, el mural estará en un espacio destacado encima del área de colaboración y se verá desde el primer y el segundo piso.
