Springfield School

26 June 2020

Kia Ora Koutou,

As we near the end of Term 2, many children have now succumbed to typical winter bugs. During the week, this saw 14 children away on some days!

Classes are busy wrapping up work for the end of term and, while tired, they are coping remarkably well.

We look forward to seeing you all at next week’s cross country event here at school.

This week we welcome McKenzie Simpson-King to school who has joined Piwakawaka.  We look forward to getting to know you and your family.

Have a great weekend everyone. ONE WEEK TO GO!

Around The School This Week!

This week Ruru went on an adventure to our local stream. This was the perfect way to end our topic unit that was based on the waterways within Tawera. Students completed several investigations at the stream - water flow, clarity, invertebrates etc. It was a freezing cold morning but we gathered great data noting that our stream is in fair condition. On reflection students felt that the cold weather may have affected some of our data - namely the invertebrates and have therefore decided they would like to redo the tests in summer. We are looking forward to comparing the data in the warmer months.

Kohanga have been learning about our beautiful mountains as part of topic this week. We learnt about the Alpine Zone and the amazing animals, plants and insects that call this habitat home. Children then worked in groups, choosing one creature that really interested them to research. We then used iPads to present our information to the class. Check out our amazing books!

We have been talking all about rocket ships this week in Piwakawaka so it was natural to finish the week making our own!!

Ministry Of Education Count Day
1st July 2020

Every year the Ministry requires all schools to send in a return with their student count to ensure staffing and funding reflects the roll count.
This takes place twice a year - at the start of March and July.
To ensure the correct information is sent to the Ministry, we require written absent notes from parents/caregivers if your child/ren is away during the count days.
Our next counting day is July 1st. If your child is absent on either or all of the following days - Tuesday 30 June, Wednesday 1st July, Thursday 2 July - please send a note or email to the office to reflect this.
An absentee submission from the School App is acceptable.

Our first issue post-lockdown!
https://issue2006si.totstoteens.co.nz/

We are so happy that with the support of local businesses we have been able to deliver you our June – August 2020 issue.

What’s in this issue?

With holidays on the way, and families looking to travel NZ with kids, we have collated 376 things to do in Aotearoa. Now that the chilly days are arriving, we have the deets on how many layers your child needs to wear, how to keep your family in good health with good food, and we share some helpful advice about common ear, nose and throat complaints. We have two super-simple and delicious recipes with brown rice (you’ll be hooked on the cheese balls, we promise!) and we look at cures for our sporty kids who develop Osgood Schlatter (knee pain) and Sever’s disease (heel pain).

As always, we have many wonderful competitions for readers to enter, and a family fun page for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you!

Thank you to everyone for supporting this digital issue. It means we are able to share our magazine with more Kiwi parents and whanau in a format that is super-visual and phone-user-friendly (70% of your parents will be reading on their phone!).

We are proud to be Aotearoa’s favourite parenting magazine, with 550,000 free magazines distributed each year through schools, preschools, libraries, and Plunket for the last 19 years. We also distribute digi copies to over 1,800 New Zealand primary and intermediate schools nationwide.
