Our Annual General Meeting (originally scheduled for 5 May 2020) has been rescheduled to 29 June 2020. You can view electronic copies of all meeting documents here

Contrary to our normal custom, we have not invited a guest speaker, because we are confident you will have lots to talk about with our Committee, given the changed circumstances we all find ourselves in. We have some significant challenges ahead and we look forward to discussing these with you.

If you are interested in joining our committee, or one of our projects, please come along and talk to us – we’d love to see you.

ICW Democratic Resilience Project

A priority for ICW is to foster local democracy by representing and acting as an advocate for the interests of our community.  As a key strategy to ensure more effective, transparent and accountable community engagement that meets those requirements of the Local Government Act relating to Purpose, we are developing a project to promote awareness and action for change within the local authority (WCC).

At this stage we are starting with a focus on WCC Consultation and have developed a Case Study to help focus discussion on this topic and welcome input from ICW membership.

Select Committee to hear ICW oral submission

On Wednesday 24 June from 10 - 10.15am, Geraldine Murphy, ICW's Spokesperson on Seismic Matters, will make an oral submission to the Governance and Administration Select Committee on the two petitions presented to Parliament by Wellington Central MP Grant Robertson. The petitions called for comprehensive support for residential owners and a review of the legislation with respect to residential buildings.

This is a public meeting that ICW members can attend in person or watch online. The Schedule of Meetings calendar provides a link to the live stream of the meeting. The webpage will be updated for the week beginning 22 June. If you plan to attend in person, allow time for the security check and arrive a bit earlier as items can start a bit earlier. We recommend you check the Schedule of Meetings early on Wednesday 24 June in case there have been changes to the agenda.

ICW survey of earthquake prone apartment buildings

Over the lockdown we ran two surveys to gather more data on the impacts of the legislation on owners in earthquake prone apartment buildings. The building survey updated the data collected in May 2019. We got responses on 17 buildings, an increase on the 13 buildings from last year. For the first time, we surveyed individual owners with an extensive survey. We had a fantastic response - 108 responses from 18 buildings. Thanks to all the respondents.

We are analysing the data and will present the findings from both surveys once that is completed. We are progressing the analysis as fast as possible to follow-up on the Select Committee hearing.
