Forward Forward

Black lives matter. Black voices matter.

But saying so is no longer enough. In the wake of the death of George Floyd and the protests fueling a call for change in our country, we have looked inward and asked, “what can we do as individuals and as an organization?”

The resounding cry is that we need to add our collective voice, contribute to the dialogue, and take action.

We stand against injustice, police brutality, discrimination, and systemic racism in our society.

We will increase our efforts to seek out Black scholars to give voice to their work, and we will continue to publish books by authors who provide perspective and insight on issues of racism in our country.

We commit to enact change in our workplace and in our publishing program, to create greater diversity and opportunity within our organization, and to amplify the Black voices that must be heard.

Resources

We would also like to share with our readers further resources for education, understanding, and involvement in the fight against racism. Note: Amistad Press launched the #BlackoutBestsellerList:
“To demonstrate our power and clout in the publishing industry, June 14–June 20, we encourage you to purchase any two books by Black Writers. Our goal is to Blackout Bestseller lists with Black Voices.”
