Hey, did you hear...
Hello everyone!
Full disclosure, I am an Airbus kid. My father worked for the company when I was young, so I had already been exposed to some of their community outreach stuff. Every year, the company used to have a 'staff family day' where the employees could bring their family to see the facilities. I got to see the plane assembly lines, sit in the cockpit of the 'Super Guppy', the funny looking aircraft used to ferry the different fuselage parts around Europe, and go through a simulation flight of the Concorde. Very cool stuff! Anyway, no surprise, Airbus has a great online educator package that touches on all things STEM. How is that important to teaching a DEP, you say? Well, watching the video capsules I thought heeeeeeeeyyyyyyy, I bet my students could make videos like this about subjects that are pertinent to my trade. What about little videos explaining what happens when you use cornstarch instead of flour in a cake? Or how soap works to remove dirt and bacteria? Could be fun! Check out the Airbus videos in today's game-not-a-game and get inspired!
On the coattails of the Airbus videos, in today's website of the day, I feature a video from Edutopia that makes the case for displaying the students' work to build confidence in other groups of students called Raising the Bar for Student Work. Really interesting, especially as we move toward a hybrid model of teaching where our students can produce a body of digital work. Have a look-see!
