Dry Land Marina Customers
Let's try this again, and get things off on the right foot as the season begins...
We sent an email to all our Dry Land Marina customers on Saturday, including a reminder of the call-in rules. I guess it didn't do a good enough job for some people, so I'm going to put it a little stronger here. Instead of just listing the rules AGAIN, I'll give a few EXAMPLES. Like on Dragnet, these stories are true...the names have been left out to protect the "not-so-innocent." If you are following the rules, you have nothing to worry about, and we apologize for having to include you in this email. If you're not following the rules, please pay attention here or you may not get to use your boat when you want to.

COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY (IN BUSINESS, IN RELATIONSHIPS, AND IN DLM).

WHEN YOU ARE DONE WITH YOUR BOAT, CONTACT US. IF IT IS AFTER HOURS, LEAVE A MESSAGE ON THE MACHINE. LET US KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE IF YOU ARE USING THE BOAT THE NEXT DAY.

WE DO NOT HANDLE BOATS MORE THAN ONCE PER DAY.

Here's an example: You call for your boat at 10 AM Saturday, and use it until mid-afternoon. When you're back on the dock, you tell us you're not using it again for the rest of the day, and you won't be using it on Sunday. We haul the boat out of the water (as we should). Then, at 4:35 PM (over an hour and a half after Last Call), you call again and ask if we can put the boat in for Sunday. We've sent the DLM crew home, there's no one left but the office staff, and no one is scheduled to come in Sunday. Sorry, we can't accommodate your late request, which violated the rules to begin with. You call again on Sunday morning to see if we can launch it, but you don't call before 9:00 AM, you call at 9:50 AM and leave a message on the machine. No one is there to hear the message, and you decide you're going to launch the boat yourself. If you do that, there might be too many boats at the dock, and someone may not have a spot when they come back. YOU CAN NEVER LAUNCH THE BOAT YOURSELF WITHOUT HAULING IT BACK OUT YOURSELF. NEVER!

MORALS OF THE STORY: #1 follow the call-in rules and communicate with us. #2 call by last-call (3:30 PM). #3 call before 9:00 AM (before 8:00 AM would be better).

Here's another example: You make a reservation for Sunday,. and we have the boat in the water for you. You use it and have fun, and go home when you're done, but you don't leave a message on the machine that you're using it again on Monday afternoon. We come in on Monday morning, check the machine, and start hauling boats. We haul yours at 9:10 AM. At 9:40 AM, you call and say you're using the boat again, because it's still in the water from yesterday. BUT IT ISN'T. WE DID OUR JOB AND TOOK IT OUT OF THE WATER. We don't handle boats more than once per day, so you should be charged an extra fee (as per the contract) for launching in violation of the Call-In Rules. We'll give you a "pass" one time, but after that, there will be a charge.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Call and leave a message on the machine when you're done at night, or call before 9:00 AM (before 8:00 AM would be better).

Now, once again, please check the chart below for the call-in rules. Print them out and stick them to your refrigerator. Keep a copy in the glove box of your car. Just please follow the call-in procedures so DLM works smoothly for all of us. If these rules are too complicated for you, I'll try to explain them the next time you come down. They've worked for us since 1962...we don't see any reason to change them now because they don't work for a select few customers.

RESERVATIONS
Your DLM Contract has a complete list of "Call In Rules and Times," but we also have a handy guide to calling in and parking your car on our website. Here is a link to our "handy dandy DLM chart":

Call In and Parking Chart

An excerpt from the DLM Contract:

HOURS OF SERVICE:

  • 8:00am to 5:00pm (Closed one hour for lunch from about 12:00pm to 1:00pm)
  • Tuesday through Saturday (Office Closed Sunday and Monday)
  • Call by 3:30pm for launching ("Last Call" is 3:30pm)
  • No launching after 4:30pm
  • Make reservations Saturday by 3:30pm for use on Sunday or Monday
  • All Sunday and Monday reservations MUST BE CONFIRMED by phone BEFORE 9:00am on the day of the reservation or the boat will not be launched.
  • Boat must leave the dock within 30 minutes of reservation time or it may be hauled out of the water.
  • Boats will only be handled once per day. If using boat on next consecutive day, call in before 9:00am so the boat is not hauled out of the water in the morning.

SPECIAL RULES:

  • No boats will be launched if "Small Craft" or greater weather warning is in effect.
  • Boats will be launched/hauled -- and dockspace will be assigned -- at the discretion of the Company.
  • An appropriate additional fee (generally not less than $50.00) may be charged if the Company launches the boat at the request of the Owner, if the request is made in violation of Call-In Rules.
DOCKING TIPS
These were taken on Sunday. If you're tied "bow in" on a finger dock (as you should be), please be sure your bow pulpit doesn't block the docks. After you get off the boat, re-tie it back a little so the bow pulpit leaves a clear path. Use a spring line. If you don't know how to tie a spring line, ask and we'll teach you.

And remember, unless you're tied to a finger dock, always tie "stern-in" (even if you have an outboard engine...we can show you how to tie up properly.
Please wear a face covering while walking on the docks to and from your boat. The docks are only 4 feet wide, so 6 feet social distancing cannot be maintained while passing someone else.

You must also wear a face covering when entering the office for any reason. If you do not have a mask, please knock on the door and we will meet you outside the office.
