There was a very good turnout of bicyclists on a very comfortable very late Spring almost Summer Bike Ride as we traversed the rolling hills surrounding beautiful downtown Shirland, IL where the Sugar River meets the Pecatonica River.

Very often as we huff & puff up our local rolling hills that some of us call "mini-mountains" we ask ourselves, why do we do it ? What is the reward? Thanks to Spinner Craig for finding the below from the "Spinner Archives" that are "Pearls of Wisdom" from long distance ride John P.
Level zero: the view is limited to the altitude gain from one’s bike seat and it thus unremarkable
Level one: there is a view but does not satisfy the five miles to the far horizon requirement
Level two: the rider kind of likes the view but doesn’t want to say anything because the rider is out of breath: the embarrassment is greater than the social good of notifying others of the view
Level three: the view is good enough to tell others about it, even though doing so will leave one panting even more and will open one up to potential, uh, uh, ribbing
Level four: the view is represented as so good that…one gets off your bike to look and BUT uses the view as an excuse to catch one’s breath
Level five: one gets off the bike to savor the view because it is, indeed an incredible view.
