Alameda County Moves Toward Allowing More Activities Beginning June 19

The Alameda County Public Health Officer announced plans to allow more activities, including all retail, outdoor dining, outdoor museums, outdoor fitness, and limited religious services beginning on Friday, June 19, throughout Alameda County. See Press Release dated June 12.

Health Order #20-14 issued June 5, 2020 is currently still in effect. The County expects to loosen restrictions in 2-4 week increments per its Reopening Plan.

All businesses allowed to operate under the Health Officer Orders must complete the Site-Specific Protection Plan template and implement risk assessment and individual control measures, physical distancing, disinfecting and cleaning protocols, and employee training to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Additional local guidance to supplement that state guidance will be available soon.

Retail and Restaurants:

While takeout, curbside and delivery services are still encouraged, indoor and outdoor retail as well as outdoor dining will be allowed, as long as social distancing and safety measures are in place.

Employer Health Screenings

Employers are advised to implement COVID-19 health screenings before staff enter a facility to start their workday and employees must complete a self-assessment to ensure they do not go to work sick or during their infectious period after being exposed to or diagnosed with COVID-19.

Weekend Main Street Closure for Outdoor Dining Effective June 19

To coincide with Alameda County’s allowance of outdoor dining, the City will close Main Street to vehicular traffic from Friday afternoon through Sunday evening beginning June 19. The closure will include the length of Main Street from Bernal Avenue to Del Valle Parkway, with openings for cross/through traffic at St. John/Ray Streets and Rose Avenue/Neal Street. The street closure is expected to begin at/around 2:00 pm on Friday and remain in place through Sunday at/around 8:00 pm, each successive weekend for 8 weeks, with an extension option.

During this street closure, restaurants, retailers and other downtown merchants will be allowed to expand their outdoor footprint to serve customers, following industry guidance and other applicable standards set out by the County and State.

Interested downtown businesses are asked to complete the necessary forms:

Downtown Main Street Temporary Outdoor Dining & Display Application (There is no fee required for the temporary application. Submit to Planning Department at pod@cityofpleasantonca.gov)

Pleasanton Downtown Association and the City will jointly promote the street closure, parking and other safety protocols. The City will evaluate the street closure on a weekly basis and work with PDA, and individual merchants as necessary, to make any needed adjustments to ensure safety and circulation.

Retail and Restaurants Outside of the Downtown District

Retail and restaurants outside of the Downtown district are allowed to extend operations to temporary outdoor areas including sidewalks, parking lots or other open spaces, within private property, for activities allowed by the Alameda County Health Orders, providing they comply with social distancing and other requirements. There is no fee required for the temporary application.

Interested businesses are asked to complete the following form and submit to Planning Department at pod@cityofpleasantonca.gov. Businesses in Hacienda will also need approval from Hacienda.
