Kia ora tātou

We asked about your preferences about the future of WCN meetings. It was fantastic to get such great feedback and lots of it!

We will be moving to alternating Zoom meetings with in-person meetings. Kara will send out a detailed email tomorrow describing the changes as a result of the feedback and changes to our resourcing.
In the meantime you can click on the button below for the dates/times/locations of meetings for the rest of 2020.

We will be kicking off with an in-person meeting in Masterton next Wednesday 15 July 11:00 a.m. at the Wairarapa Community Centre. The last few Masterton meetings have been packed, we hope to see all of you again!  We have plan to make the room more comfortable by only putting out chairs and not using the tables. Hopefully this will ensure we don't feel packed in like sardines. Please stay away from in-person meetings if you are feeling unwell.

Our Member Spotlight of this issue is Glenda Seville from South Wairarapa and Carterton District Councils. If you would like to profile your work in the spotlight, contact Marina at info@wcn.org.nz .

YOUR PLACE, YOUR DATA: 2018 CENSUS REGIONAL

Your place, your data: 2018 Census regional tour session was cancelled due to COVID-19, but PowerPoint presentations for all sessions can now be found at this webpage.

As well as the PowerPoint presentation, online tutorial modules have been developed for the following Stats NZ tools and products:
•    Geographic Boundary Viewer
•    Place Summaries
•    Map gallery
•    NZ.Stat tables
Please find a link to the tutorial here.

The 2023 Census option that has been funded focuses on leveraging what was successful in 2018 and fixing what wasn’t. Much of the increase in budget compared to 2018 will go toward having more ‘boots on the ground’ (field staff), community engagement activity and more targeted communication strategies, with a strong focus on engaging with Māori and Pacific communities.

COMMUNITY FOOD ORGANISATIONS LIST

At Kore Hiakai Zero Hunger Collective website you will find insights about food security in Aotearoa and their approach to creating long term change. They have instigated a Community Food Organisation list that will be appearing on the website.

If you are a community food organisation and would like to appear on that list share your organisation’s details on the Community Food Organisations List. This list will assist with mapping local food networks in communities across Aotearoa.

If you have information to share in this space contact korehiakai@nzccss.org.nz.

Glenda Seville -  SWDC & CDC
Glenda has taken on the new Community Development Coordinator role for Carterton and South Wairarapa District Councils. In the role for a few months now, she is loving meeting new people, connecting with old networks, and being out and about in the community.

At this stage Glenda is prioristing reconnnecting with people and community groups in Carterton and the South Wairarapa to get a feel for where her role can be of most impact.

Connecting through the WCN Facebook group was useful for Glenda because "This group enabled me to reach out introduce myself and connect with people while working remotely. Attending the meetings is great to be able to hear what everyone is up to and I always take away learnings from these hui”.

For Glenda “the Community Networks is such a great asset to the Wairarapa community/social sector. Being able to connect with your peers, share ideas, and work together is really important in our work. COVID-19 lockdown also really highlighted the importance of us all being able to connect in many different forums. Kara and Marina did a fantastic job of sharing information and keeping us connected. I just want to take this opportunity to thank the Community Networks for all the hard work they continue to do for the Wairarapa community sector”.
