BECOME CERTIFIED TO GFGP
THE INTERNATIONAL STANDARD FOR ACCOUNTABILITY & TRUST
Charities in the United Kingdom need to embrace the adoption of various international standards either in the areas of quality, information security ,health & safety or environmental management systems.
However, there hasn’t been a standard to enable charities to become certified by independent audit firms to demonstrate accountability and trust in the management of the funds donated to them to undertake their charitable activities. That is until now – following the development of the international standard for Good Financial Grant Practice (ARS 1651:2018).
The Good Financial Grant Practice (GFGP) standard is a new global quality standard that sets out in detail the procedures, processes, and policies that small to large charitable/ philanthropic donors expect charities to have implemented.
Benefits of being certified to GFGP
Becoming certified to GFGP will enable charities of any type, size and complexity to:
  • Demonstrate that they have been independently certified confirming that they provide governance of their funds to the highest standard.
  • Use their certification to GFGP as a symbol of accountability and trust in their communication materials to enhance their ability to attract further donations.
  • Be listed as a GFGP certified charity in the directory of the Global Grant Community (GGC) which is an international database of organizations that personal, private and corporate donors are using to quickly find trusted partners they can fund.
A question often raised is What is the difference between a charity having its annual accounts audited and becoming certified to GFGP?”
An audit is an independent, objective evaluation of an organization's financial reports and financial reporting processes to confirm that management has presented a “true and fair” view of the financial performance and position. A GFGP certification audit is a more comprehensive appraisal of an organization’s capabilities, undertaken to verify operational compliance with the financial management, procurement and governance requirements of the GFGP standard. Thus, certification to GFGP provides an external symbol of accountability and trust that donations are being managed correctly to achieve the goals of the charity
