COVID Death Rate Explained
People claiming that COVID is a global hoax often use death rate discrepancies to imply that scientists (especially Dr. Fauci and the dreaded World Health Organization) are lying. In reality, the case/ fatality rate for any disease is not a fixed number. Here’s why.
Scientists report the “death rate” by dividing the number of deaths by the number of confirmed cases. But think about that. In a population of nursing home residents, the case/ fatality ratio might very well be 20%, whereas in a college town, the number would be much lower, simply because it is rare for a person under 30 years old to die from COVID-19.
To get an accurate picture, then you need to look at large populations and include infected people without symptoms. These types of studies report a case/ fatality ratio around 1%.
This checks out when you compare it to historical numbers of all-cause mortality. In other words, we have a good idea from years past how many deaths would be expected per month. Nationwide, the number of deaths between 02/01 and 05/30 is 103% compared to previous years. As you would expect, that ranges from a low of 80% in North Dakota to a high of 130% in New York.
