How can I determine what type of RAM to buy to upgrade/extend the life of my PC?

Is your computer more than 5 years old and you want to get a couple more years of use? Try upgrading the memory of the computer, it's an inexpensive way to extend the life of your computer. Does your current computer take a long time to process info or if you have an Apple computer, are you always getting the beach ball? Windows 10 and the latest Apple operating systems are huge memory hogs, older computers struggle to keep up..Microsoft and Apple have built in memory intensive applications like Cortana and Siri that hardly anybody uses on their computers, but make it harder for older computers to process information.

Crucial.com makes it easy with their awesome System Scanner Tool. Here’s how to use it:

1 – Visit https://www.crucial.com/store/systemscanner with any web browser on the  computer that you wish to upgrade.

2 – Once the Crucial home page has finished loading, Agree to the terms by clicking the box, then click the Scan Computer button located over on the right to download the System Scanner tool to your computer.

3 – Double-click on the downloaded file to launch the System Scanner tool.

The System Scanner tool will now scan your PC’s hardware to determine what kind of RAM your system uses, how much is currently installed and what your upgrade options are (if any).

At this point you can easily choose an upgrade option from the list and purchase it from Crucial on the spot. I can assist installing the memory on most desktop computers if you don't feel comfortable doing it. You should have a grounding strap on when you touch computer components.

If you have location services turned on in your phone, there is a technology that is being used called Geo-fencing that might target you with an ad as you walk by their location.

What Is Geo-fencing?

Geofencing is the practice of using global positioning (GPS) or radio frequency identification (RFID) to define a geographic boundary. Then, once this “virtual barrier” is established, the administrator can set up triggers that send a text message, email alert, or app notification when a mobile device enters (or exits) the specified area.

So, businesses can section off a geographic area and communicate with devices within that space — understood. But why do they want to?

Practical Applications Of Geo-fencing

Geofencing is a way to engage consumers based on hyper-local location, and that can do a lot in terms of triggering immediate sales as well as understanding shopper mindset.

For example, a store could erect a simple geo-fence in an area surrounding its physical location. When users pass through, receiving a location-triggered alert or deal makes them considerably more likely to stop in and shop.

Alternatively, an auto dealer, for example, could set up a geo-fence aimed at targeting individuals who are leaving a rival dealership after browsing for a vehicle. Hitting them with an offer for zero percent financing on a comparable car model at that moment is more likely to make them come comparison shop — or at least consider an alternative option.
