SWISS + CULTURE + ONLINE
While this year’s edition of the leading art fair Art Basel in Basel is officially canceled due to COVID-19, you can discover over four thousand exceptional artworks by hundreds of leading galleries worldwide through the Art Basel Online Viewing Rooms (OVR), open to the public from June 19 – 26. One of the most exciting aspects of this online edition is the dozens of events the galleries are organizing during Art Basel OVR. We recently caught up with gallerist and collector Stefan von Bartha of the Basel-based gallery von Bartha, who will be in a live-streamed conversation with artist Jakob Fenger of Superflux on Friday, June 19 at 11am. In our exclusive interview, von Bartha discusses the gallery’s Online Viewing Room, the cancellation of Art Basel, the impact of COVID-19, and their upcoming 50th anniversary exhibition. Read the interview with Stefan von Bartha here and explore the Art Basel OVR platform for further highlights such as the conversation on environmental justice between artist Cecilia Vicuña and Swiss curator Hans Ulrich Obrist on June 19 at 9am, and the conversation between acclaimed Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist and New Museum curator Massimiliano Gioni at 10am.

MARINIERTES RINDSVORESSEN MIT FUNGGI
COOK WITH CHEF YANNICK GERMANIER
Go on a culinary tour of Switzerland with Chef Yannick Germanier and discover Mariniertes Rindsvoressen, a marinated beef stew in red wine sauce with celery and carrots. Yannick pairs this Swiss classic with Funggi, a mashed potato recipe from the canton of Solothurn. This delicacy from the northwestern region of the country combines potatoes with apples and compliments the tender meat perfectly. This dish is best enjoyed with a glass of red wine. Watch Yannick prepare Mariniertes Rindsvoressen mit Funggi hereThe recipe can be found in the video description.

UGO RONDINONE: MATTITUCK
EXPLORE THE ONLINE EXHIBITION
Gladstone Gallery is pleased to present Ugo Rondinone: Mattituck, an online exhibition of new works by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone. “The Mattituck paintings show the view from my studio window across the Long Island Sound. My first summer in Mattituck was a revelation, forcing me to examine my surroundings with the freshness of a friendly alien. Every day, just when the twilight started, John and I would set our chairs in position and experience a new sunset, a magical illumination of the ordinary - lucid and lyrical. Looking at the sunset makes one feel that the physical and the spiritual are not separate.” Explore Ugo Rondinone’s intimate paintings here. On view through June 26.

"Noot! Noot!" The Swiss claymation Pingu has been an international sensation for three decades. Pingu is a fun-loving little penguin who lives with his family and friends in the South Pole. Curious, cheeky and sometimes naughty, he has a good heart and manages to win everyone over with his playful nature. The characters speak in a funny babbling and honking penguin language that needs no translation. These endearing five-minute episodes, created by Swiss animator Otmar Gutmann, are appropriate for all ages. Check out the Pingu channel here.

ANNA GOELDIN - THE LAST WITCH BY EVELINE HASLER
RECOMMENDED BY KATHARINA POMPILIO
I'm Katharina Pompilio, Deputy Consul General and Head of the Economic and Communication Section at the Consulate General. In times like these, communication is of paramount importance. Factual information and emphatic weighing of various interests are required, not witch-hunts. Nevertheless, I would like to introduce you to a “witch”: Anna Goeldin, the last person in Europe to be executed for witchcraft in 1782. A very dark chapter in Swiss history. This judicial murder is a sad testimony of social injustice and of the instrumentalization of justice for the purpose of oppressing non-conformist and socially weaker fellow human beings. Anna's tragic story lives on in various artistic adaptations. My favorite one is the novel Anna Goeldin - The Last Witch by Swiss author Eveline Hasler.
