REOPENING STARTS NOW

Welcome to our old and new subscribers.
This month, we spent time reconciling all of our databases and expect some duplications, so, pardon us as our next task will be to clean this list that is now about 25,000 people. We finally brought together all our email lists from the past 15 years into one huge list. From Calabar Imports, Gallery and Magazine, we are in the process of reopening after the "pause".

Our reopening people hung outside bars in droves without masks and in China, they closed schools today. Our stores have remained closed but we are reviewing phase 3 rules as a guide to where we might see significant possibilities.

What? Re-Opening:

The last 3 months have been extremely profound and for us clear: we take life seriously as we head to a re-opening of our locations. We have read all the information from NYC, CDC and talked to our doctors, nurses and healthcare friends to help guide us through this next phrase. Re-opening means Safety Protocols, Staff, Customers and Rules. We place safety as key, so, we are redesigning our spaces to create simpler processes of doing business.

This newsletter has 4 important features:

1. An African Art Auction
2. Reopening our Locations

3. Advertising with us
4. The Wellness Pivot

1. AN AFRICAN ART AUCTION
#Social Justice #Change #Future AFRICAN AUCTION, JULY 13 TO JULY 31, 2020 AT CALABARGALLERY.COM

This July, we will offer a way for you and our customers to help African Artists and also help us rebuild our business after 3 months of closure: Our first African Art Auction online will enable you buy unique artwork and support artists who lost income during the pandemic. We plan to do a couple over the next months. Our first will target African Artists, our second, African American Artists and third, Caribbean Artists.

Why?
The Covid-19 virus made the world stand still and created a paradigm shift for artists globally: for some artists, it was a time of creativity, others, reflection but for most, a loss of exhibitions and unsustainable loss of art sales at home and abroad. Calabar Gallery reached out to African artists to create an auction as a way to assist artists sell work during this difficult time. The auction launches a new service offering for Calabar Gallery online.

Artists work ranging from about 12 African countries featuring 25 artists curated by Atim Annette Oton. The work speaks about social justice, change and speak about the future in theme and medium. The Auction Work ranges from $750 to $4000 and it will launch on July 13 and end July 31.

Sugarcane Magazine will be joining us as a media partner and we are looking for sponsors who can help expose, market and amplify our auction to other audiences. Please feel free to contsct us about this auction or future ones at info@calabargallery.com
2. REOPENING OUR LOCATIONS SOON.

Our locations usually have places for people to come to sit and talk with us - our "hang out" protocol will no longer exist. We mourn the loss of this but we need to be vigilant and safely limited interactions. We are setting up an appointment only schedule for several days of the week to create safer conditions for us all.

STAFF
Our staff will all be required to mask up and have face shields. We are unsure of gloves as some medical experts say plastic gloves carry more germs It's about safety for them and our customers so, we will provide them all the protective pieces at no cost. We will add lots of sanitizers and wipes to our spaces, expand our cleaning protocols to keep us safe.

CUSTOMERS
Masks are required to enter all our locations. We are for the first time in 15 years keeping our doors locked and meeting customers at the door to let them in. It's a huge culture shift for us and for our customers but it is necessary. In doing this, we will reserve the right to deny entry to anyone who is not wearing a mask. It's a New York City law.

We are requiring all customers to sign our books daily so we can keep a record of who came in, just incase we need to contact them: we are now in contact tracing protocols. We know it will be trying and we may have to ask people to leave our stores if they do not comply with our protocols.
3. ADVERTISE WITH US

This newsletter goes to 25,000 people and several people requested that we open it up to about 2 to 3 advertisers every week. If you are interested, please email at info@calabargallery.com.
4. THE WELLNESS PIVOT

Time during this pandemic was productive because of food choices: immune boosting, health focuses and returning to exercising. As a result, we joined the development of a new show:

The Wellness Pivot
: Food, Health and Fitness Show explores mind, body, and spirit as a process of natural healthy living focused on food, exercise and health ways for a more holistic lifestyle.
