Senior Center Update

Happy Independence Day from the Senior Center

Summer has officially arrived, and we hope that you have been outside enjoying the beautiful weather. While you travel throughout our community savoring the sunshine and fresh air, the North Olmsted Arts Commission invites you to visit the Wishing Wall located at the entrance to the bike path alongside the Oxcart Food Pantry located at 26272 Butternut Ridge Road. There you will find supplies to write your wish on a ribbon and tie your wish to the fence for all to see. Visit the Wishing Wall for a few minutes of quiet reflection, or spend some outdoor time with family and friends as you travel along the bike path. You will have the opportunity to visit the Wishing Wall throughout the month. Parking is available at the Oxcart Pantry, however, we ask that you please avoid using the parking lot on Wednesdays. If you cannot visit the Wishing Wall and you would like to participate in this community project you are welcome to contact the Senior Center and schedule a time to stop into our lobby area where wishing ribbons and pens will be supplied. Write your wish on the ribbon and your ribbon will be added beside the others on the wall. Our community is even stronger when we come together, weaving our words as one voice.

The North Olmsted Senior Center will be closed in observance of Independence Day on Friday, July 3. While we continue to socially distance, some of the most specular firework shows can be viewed online. Enjoy Red, White & BOOM! a multi-day television and digital event looking back over the years of the tradition of parades honoring veterans and the largest fireworks show in the Midwest! The four-night television campaign will air from Wednesday, July 1 to Saturday, July 4 on NBC4. Find out more here. Also, you can watch Disney’s Fourth of July fireworks display here or simply search YouTube for a never ending supply of entertaining and amazing fireworks displays!

As always, the North Olmsted Senior Center staff is available to serve you. You’re always welcome to email us or call the main line at (440) 777-8100.

Registered participants have the opportunity to win a Barnes & Noble gift card compliments of Caroline James, Business Development Specialist of Independence Village in Avon Lake. At the end of each month, participants must contact Activities Coordinator Beth Reitz by phone or email so she can record each participant’s monthly number of books read.
