I’d like to extend a warm welcome to all of our incoming and returning core internal medicine and general internal medicine subspecialty residents and fellows. This monthly newsletter provides updates on the Division of GIM at the University of Toronto. More divisional information (including previous newsletters) is available on our website (GIM UofT) and through Twitter @GIMToronto. Awards/Honours
Chaim Bell receives CSIM Senior Investigator Award

Chaim Bell has been awarded the 2020 Dr. David Sackett Senior Investigator Award from the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine. This is the premier research award from our national society and is a testament to Chaim's tremendous contributions to research and mentorship of trainees.  
Peter Cram receives Department of Medicine Research Merit Award

Announcements
Promotion to Assistant Professor
 
Maral Nadjafi was recently promoted to Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine, University of Toronto.  Maral is a staff physician in the Division of GIM at NYGH, where she is Site Lead for the GIM training program.  
It's a GIRL!

James Rassos and his wife Rachel are excited to announce the birth of their beautiful daughter, Claire Harriet, on June 26th. Both mom and baby are doing well. Big brother, Stanley the greyhound, is also in love. Congratulations!
New Faculty
James Rassos joins the Division of GIM as an Assistant Professor and Clinician-Teacher based at St Michael's Hospital. James holds a Bachelor of Health Sciences and an MD from McMaster University and completed core internal medicine and GIM subspecialty training at the University of Toronto. He recently completed his MHPE from Maastricht University, where his thesis focused on Perceptions of near-peer feedback and assessment in Internal Medicine: EPAs as a model, supported by a HoPingKong Centre Fellowship. He hopes to continue his academic scholarship in the areas of feedback and assessment with a special interest in CBME. He is excited to start his new role as an academic internist while balancing his new role of Dad to newborn Claire.
Ryan Luther joins the Division ​of GIM as Assistant Professor and Clinician Teacher based at Toronto General Hospital. He holds a Bachelor of Science from McGill University and an MD from the University of Toronto. He completed core internal medicine, including one year as the Chief Medical Resident at Toronto General Hospital, and GIM subspecialty training at the University of Toronto. He was supported as a CEEP fellow to complete a Masters of Health Professions Education from Maastricht University, and received further training in medical education ​and leadership from the Harvard Macy Program for Educators in Health Professions. His academic interests include learning analytics in competency based assessment, and leadership training ​of physicians in training. He will be the Education Coordinator of the Consultative Medicine rotation at Toronto General Hospital.

Rounds

GIM Citywide Rounds 
GIM Citywide Rounds are geared to faculty and PGY4s and 5s and are held on the last Friday of most months from 12-1 PM via Zoom. If you would like to join but have not received an invitation, please email joe.graves@uhn.ca. The next rounds are scheduled for Sept. 25 when Dr. Amy Yu will provide an update on stroke management.   
 
The HoPingKong Centre GIM-HTN Clinical Case Rounds 
These rounds create a space for staff physicians to seek input from colleagues on challenging cases, with a focus on ambulatory HTN evaluation and management.
