Successful Site Clearance of Reptiles for
Ecology Enabling Works

One of the side effects of the Covid-19 lockdown was a cessation of enabling works on some of our client sites.  This has presented many challenges to programming as site ecological work was delayed and sometimes set back.

As these sites have been re-opening over the last month, it has been necessary to remediate our initial work.
In the case of Park Farm South-east in Ashford, Kent a Taylor Wimpey/ Persimmon Homes collaboration, we have been working closely with the developers and contractors to ensure that site development can proceed expeditiously while still protecting important wildlife interest on site.  We were able to clear this site in June, so that development could proceed on time.

Maxwell's Farm
Planning Approval

Outline planning permission has just been granted for a hyper-scale data and business centre at Maxwell's Farm, Cheshunt, Hertfordshire after a protracted 20 month period of consultation and co-ordination with the local planning authority.

JFA provided ecological support to the scheme including a Habitat Regulation Assessment and Biodiversity Impact Assessment Calculation of the expected Net Gain in habitat post-construction.  This development was located within the zone of influence of SAC, SPA and Ramsar sites and incorporated a variety of ecological enhancements to the current base-line including SuDS, woodland and meadow creation to mitigate impacts.

Planting Audits

We are increasingly being asked to undertake audits of soft landscape schemes, where plants have failed to thrive or management has not been performed as specified and remedial works have to be done to prepare a site for local authority handover. Replacement planting, especially of semi-mature trees can be prohibitive.

We have extensive experience of contract administration. A watertight JCLI or JCT landscape contract protects the interests of both the client and landscape contractor and clearly sets out the stage payments for completed work and responsibilities for Defects Liability and the replacement of damaged, diseased or vandalised stock.
