Baby, You're a Firework

A Long Weekend...

VWC Fan -
I don't know about you, but I am looking forward to the long weekend. I am already planning menus and picking out my wines. It will be different this year, obviously. Normally we have a big group of friends over to watch the fireworks. This year maybe a fireworks watch party online and some Skype tastings.

One thing won't change though, gotta have a line up of great American wines. So we've gotten in some interesting stuff for you. Dave has been an absolute beast with the great wine finding - and great deal finding. Here are some highlights of what we are pulling out this weekend. But note, we are closing early on Saturday July 4th - last call at 4PM.

Also, don't forget to kick off the weekend with us and our History of American Wine virtual tasting on Friday. Independence Day themed and some great American wines.

Hall Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc (2018)

92 pts. I'm going to start with this one. A great balance of crisp, gooseberry-style with mango-creaminess-from-some-lees-stirring-style - the sauv blanc sweet spot. I think some scallops, seared quick in cast iron, finished with a chunk of butter and squeeze of lemon, then just throw the pan on a trivet and eat them straight as an appetizer.

Benton Lane Pinot Noir 'First Class' Reserve (2014)

91 pts. 'First Class' is Benton Lane's more intense take on their regular bottling. This one is dark ruby, with candied cranberry, cassis, rich vanilla and a great earth/mushroom note. Definitely full flavored, but the age (it's a 2014) has softened the tannins. With this, some sautéed mushrooms and sirloin beef tips. I'll leave the steak out for the vegetarians, but I'll toss some onions, garlic, tomatoes with some of this Pinot to make a little wine reduction that will go great meat or no meat.

Cade Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain Estate (2016)

96+ pts. Deep purple-black color and wonderfully pure, vibrant notes of crushed blackcurrants, black cherries and baker's chocolate with touches of Indian spices, licorice and cloves. I'm pairing this with some ribs, the biggest ones I can find, Kansas City rubbed, and saucy. Happy Birthday, 'Murica. LIMITED
