Local farmers' markets accept SNAP!
During COVID-19, additional benefits (Pandemic EBT) have been made available to families with children eligible for free and reduced priced lunch. 
Check out Wake County's food resources page and our website for more info and spread the word on how these benefits can be used at local farmers' markets!

Food Recovery: The Food Recovery Circle is focused on food waste, climate change, and is interested in piloting a curbside compost program. Next meeting: Wednesday, July 8th, 1-2 pm via conference call. Contact Bianca Howard for more information. 

Racial Equity Conversation: The Racial Equity Circle is continuing to build relationships with key stakeholders, and exploring ways in which racial inequities are present in Wake County's food system. Next meeting: Thursday, July 9th, 1:00-2:30 pm via Zoom. Contact Cindy Sink for more information.

Farm Advocacy: The Farm Advocacy Circle is focused on developing and collecting marketing tools and resources for farmers in response to the pandemic. Next meeting: Monday, July 13th, 1-3 pm via Zoom. Contact Lindsey Carver or Teresa Gilroy for more information. 

Economic Development: The Economic Development Circle is clarifying their focus as they look at value changes, their role in local food economies, and supporting key partners. Next meeting: Tuesday, July 14th, 3:30-5:00 pm. Contact Nicky Ulrich for more information. 

Food Access & Security: The circle is looking into Victory Garden programming and Plant-a-Row opportunities for Wake County. Next meeting: Wednesday, July 15th, 2-3 pm via Zoom. Contact Sydney Klein or Meghan Malka for more information. 

Coordinating: The Coordinating Circle continues to work through the strategic planning process. Next meeting: Thursday, July 23rd from 10-11 am. Contact Alana Gilbert for more information. 


Communications: The Communications Circle is helping work through a P-EBT and Farmers' Markets communications and consumer education campaign. Contact Allyson Farmer for more information. 
NC Food Council Connections in COVID-19: Biweekly statewide calls with CFS
Community Food Strategies is hosting biweekly statewide calls with food councils to exchange ideas and get support. Any member of CAFN is encouraged to join! Calls are held every other Tuesday from 2:30-3:45 pm.

Local Farms Need Your Help
A CFSA survey of local farms shows that 76% have lost significant sales, while many might be out of business by the end of the summer. How to help: ask your representatives to support local food in the next COVID-19 stimulus bill. 
Support Latinx & immigrant families hardest hit by COVID-19
Check out these organizations to support & donate: 
All Hands Raleigh, which sells merchandise to fundraise for immigrant workers. 
El Pueblo, a Raleigh-based nonprofit specializing in development for Wake County's Latinx community.
Siembra NC, a Latinx-run organization defending rights and building power.
