Long Live Buffalo.
I know if I put my mind to it, I know that I really can do it

91 days to harvest in optimal conditions.  That is what it said on the back of the packet of pumpkin seeds my son and I planted in the garden out back.  14 days to quarantine.  21 days for a hen’s eggs to hatch.  25 years for full retirement.  6 days for lab results.  3 weeks till baseball.  10 days for the DMV to process paperwork.  18 years and he goes off to college.

For many things in life, we cannot rush, as there is a fixed minimum to development times.  The controls we as humans weld are when we begin and how consistent we stay on course.  “You reap what you sow” inherently implies if you want something, you need to pick your spot, get the ball rolling, put in the effort, pray for favorable environmental conditions and above all, be patient and have faith.  Witchcraft that promises faster results is surely nothing more than slick advertising for false hope in a bottle.  No fertilizer will catch you up if you plant your corn late, no uncanny flour will bake your pineapple upside down cake in less than 42 minutes, and there lies no mystic clock face you can pull back the hands of time on and steal some years of life back.  There are magics resident and abound in the world, but not like that.

Today, assess your lot, the inventory of your garden.  What matures and grows?  What stalls and needs a little bit more love?  What opportunities are you affording yourself and your family the chance to harvest?  Identifying where expectations do not align with the current state of affairs highlights incongruences sure to tear at the delicate stitching of our psyche, stress points along the break wall where a persistent tide of dreams crashes against the beaches of reality.

No matter your might, you cannot tug on a sapling and make it an oak, so if a great forest is what you want, go plant acorns and learn to be patient.

It's gonna take time, a whole lot of precious time, it's gonna take patience and time, ummm, to do it, to do it, to do it, to do it, to do it, to do it right child

Join Better Together working to bring social justice our community
Better Together is a grassroots group of entrepreneurs who thought if they could disrupt the business world with startups, why not disrupt the social status quo with antiracist projects? During weekly Monday night meetings, the group listens and shares stories and experiences regarding race and racism, educating each and ideating on projects to promote antiracism. New attendees can join these open meetings through the #bettertogether channel on the WNY Community Slack.

Startup Spotlight
What is one thing people should know about vidwheel?
One thing to know about vidwheel (formerly Nickel City Graphics) is that we have been a long time startup community supporter as a traditional service business (video production). We documented the first Buffalo Startup Weekend, documented lectures for Z80 labs, were on the founding board for Startup Grind Buffalo, and have worked with a number of notable startups. Due to an uncertain market place and other challenges, we are now working to build a new version of vidwheel into a scalable startup.

What's your "startup superpower" to share with the community?
I can help you look and sound better on your Zoom meetings. Since the pandemic began I have been offering free webcam coaching sessions to try to help folks optimize their webcam systems and come across better on their video meetings and webinars. The principals are all the same as in the video production, but it's not exactly general knowledge.
