Dear WCFR Supporters,
Over the past three months, I have written to inform you about our actions to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. We are now at a point where we are beginning to see the range of possible impacts on WCFR’s finances.
Some impacts are clear. For the coming year, there are a number of sources of revenue that will either be reduced or eliminated entirely, including those from events, and activities that will necessarily be shuttered for the foreseeable future. One of those events is our annual fundraising gala. Today, we are announcing that we are canceling our Ninth Anniversary & Fundraising Gala. This event is our main fundraising event of the year. We are also looking at significant new expenses associated with our plans to resume our in-person training programs in the Fall. Those plans, whether for office, classroom, or community-based, must measure up to the highest possible public health and safety standards. This is both necessary and costly to implement.
These impacts create a sizeable hole in our planned budget. We are a donation-dependent nonprofit organization; our ability to maintain our financial health will depend on the number of supporters who donate.
The task ahead is formidable. WCFR works through partnerships to achieve its goals. We are inviting individuals and organizations to participate in these partnerships by becoming members, sponsors, volunteers, and donors. We are also asking our sponsors to renew their sponsorship early to allow us to balance our 2021 budget and make some very hard decisions. We will make them with the goal of meeting our mission “to prevent deaths worldwide through education and training”.
Throughout our history, WCFR has encountered many challenges and met them all with your support. And we will do so again.
