ADA North East Helping Students Gain Access to Milk and Meals this Summer
ADA North East is adapting its Summer Meals program efforts in response to COVID-19 restrictions to ensure students have access to school meals that include dairy. Milk sales will get a boost because Summer Meals, like school breakfast and lunch programs, are all federally funded and served with milk.

Nearly 218,500 Gallons of Milk Distributed to Local Families in June
As National Dairy Month comes to a close, families within the region received nearly 218,500 gallons of milk thanks to the collaborations between ADA North East, local dairy companies and local community groups. Milk was purchased through the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) from Dairy Farmers of America, Harrisburg Dairies, Schneider’s Dairy, Upstate Niagara Cooperative and Cloverland Dairy.

Pennsylvania Dairy Farmer, DMI Chair Explains Importance of Research-Based Info to Support Dietary Guidelines
Marilyn Hershey, Dairy Management Inc. Chair and dairy farmer from Cochranville, Pa., shared an explanation of the draft recommendations announced in June about the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which includes low-fat or fat-free dairy as in past years. Growing evidence, including research led by dairy checkoff through the National Dairy Council, shows that dairy of all fat levels has neutral to positive benefits which will continue to be presented to the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee before its final report due July 15.
