Finding the "New Normal"

Are you ready for COVID-19 and all the fallout from it to end? We are too! We are still mourning the momentum in ministry we had and the exciting things on the horizon that had to be canceled or indefinitely postponed.
Thankfully, Thailand was able to beat the curve, so to speak, and quickly minimized the number of cases. Thailand hasn't had any domestically transmitted cases of the Corona Virus in five weeks. The only new cases are reportedly quarantined Thais recently repatriated from other countries.
Thailand has remained closed to foreign arrivals for several months. This has put two new teachers who plan to join our team on hold. However, it appears that the government will gradually open up to foreigners, those with work visas first, very soon. We look forward to having two more teachers join our team, hopefully by the end of the year.
The first term for Thai schools typically begins in mid-May. However, due to the pandemic, face-to-face instruction was delayed until July 1.  We start teaching English to adults here in Chiang Mai this month as well.

Four and Loving Life
Titus turned four in May. He also started back at Thai kindergarten. He loves to ride his balance bike and help around the house. Helping mom make cookies is his favorite.
Puppy Love
Owen loves having a puppy around. He has done a great job of taking the dog for runs in the neighborhood. Owen has also started to learn to cook on his own! He is looking forward to Grace International School starting back up this August!!
14-year-old Sweetie
Jake just turned 14! He's growing up so fast and doing very well. He finished his school year with a drive-by graduation from the 6th grade and will start in Grace International School's secondary program in just six weeks. Jake still loves to play Angry Birds and is spending a lot of his summer building with Legos.
Two months ago we sent out an urgent prayer request for a woman named "Gaew". Her 11 month old son has made a full recovery! Thank you for praying! Now, however, she has a long road ahead. She has decided to separate from her abusive husband indefinitely. We were able to help her get a simple rental started and help her oldest son start school. Together with the local church, we hope to gradually see her grow in her faith and able to support her family. It won't be easy and it will be a challenge to navigate how to best help her find her way.
The teacher team in Sukhothai has started teaching and continue to build relationships. We are so excited about the spiritual fruit being reaped right now and that which is to come. The team has bonded well and the four new teachers have settled into their work environments very well. We look forward to seeing how God uses them to impact their students, coworkers and those in their community!
One thing you can pray for the new teachers is that they will be able to implement effective classroom management. Thai students don't fit the "Asian" stereotype and student behavior is one of the biggest struggles our teachers face.
Faith continues to teach English to Thai house helpers. It has been a very weird season for the past few months but things are starting to get rolling again. Her main students are full of energy and are eager students to learn more Bible stories in English. However, scheduling with these women has been very challenging due to work and family demands on them.
Technology - Friend and Foe
We've begun to encounter problems with our aging technology, especially the laptop computer we use daily. We hope to purchase a new computer soon but funds are very tight. Would you consider helping us get a new and reliable computer? If you would like to donate for this, please click the "Join our team" button below, and specify that the gift is towards a new computer.
Prayer Needs:
  • First year English teachers in Sukhothai - it is a big learning curve! Pray they continue to build great relationships
  • Crossworld's recruiting efforts for English teachers and for those preparing to come to Thailand, hopefully before the end of the year.
  • Balance for us as we juggle family and ministry while the international school is on break.
  • The Burmese woman, Gaew, and her three children. Please pray that the Spirit leads her in her on-going struggles and gives the local church wisdom in how to best help her.
Thank you for making this ministry possible!
In the Shepherd's Arms,
Eric, Faith, Jake, Owen and Titus
