>> Call for Volunteer EuroMarine Mentors
EuroMarine's early career researchers group OYSTER has announced a call for EuroMarine members to volunteer as mentors for the new OYSTER Mentorship Programme, which is to become operational by September 2020. Further details on the programme are available here.


>> EuroMarine endorses the RISE UP Blue Call to Action
EuroMarine has endorsed and signed on as a network to the RISE UP Blue Call to Action, a joint call from civil society and philanthropic organisations urging governments and businesses to take the bold, fair actions needed to safeguard the ocean. EuroMarine encourages others to read the call and sign on as individuals or institutions. Full text of the call and a link to RISE UP are available here.


>> EuroMarine third 2020 Steering Committee meeting, 14 October 2020, Online
The EuroMarine Steering Committee will be holding a remote meeting on October 14th to make final decisions regarding the preparation of the 2021 (online or hybrid) General Assembly meeting and the final selection for funding of proposals submitted under the EuroMarine 2020 call for proposals. Updates to this meeting will be posted here.


>> EuroMarine 2021 General Assembly, 26-27 January 2021, Online
Due to the Covid 19 sanitary crisis and given that restrictions might bear on international travel at the beginning of 2021, the 2021 General Assembly meeting of EuroMarine will be held online. Sessions will either be spread over two days (26-27 Jan. 2021) or grouped on a single day. Updates and further details will continue to be posted to the 2021 GA page.


>> EuroMarine FWS MODEL-EDC postponed to 2021
Due to impacts from the Covid-19 pandemic, including the postponement of the CECE2020/ISFE event around which this activity was originally planned, the EuroMarine foresight workshop MODEL-EDC has been postponed until March 2021. Further updates will continue to be posted to the MODEL-EDC activity page.


>> EuroMarine 2020 Call for Fellowship Applications closed
The 2020 Call for Fellowship Applications was closed on 29 May, and applicants have been notified of their results. A full list of the successful fellowship recipients will be posted once all have confirmed their acceptance. Due to Covid-19's impact on available training courses, a second, smaller call will be run in the autumn. The results of this call will be posted to the 2020 Fellowship page.


>> The EuroMarine 2020 Call for Proposals of Activities has closed
The EuroMarine 2020 Call for Scientific Activities closed on 1 June. The submitted proposals will be reviewed and the results will be announced in November, after the Steering Committee has met. The outcome will also be posted to the 2020 Call for Activities page.

The objective of this webinar session is to bring private bodies responsible for the offshore renewables industry together with public authorities to begin a conversation on barriers to a more integrated approach to ocean observation and how to overcome them.

Call for review of the draft scoping report for the IPBES nexus assessment


The Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) has announced that the draft scoping report for the nexus assessment (thematic assessment of the interlinkages among biodiversity, water, food and health in the context of climate change) is open for external review until 31 July 2020. In order to assist IPBES national focal points with the submission of their review comments, a virtual meeting for national focal points will be held from 6 to 10 July 2020 in the context of the capacity-building work of IPBES.

Public consultations on EU strategy to adapting to climate change


The European Commission is welcoming input from all citizens and organisations for the EU strategy for adapting to climate change, which will give citizens and stakeholders from all parts of society a voice and role in designing new climate actions, sharing information, launching grassroots activities and showcasing solutions that others can follow.

Postdoctoral opportunity mapping the biogeography of vulnerable marine ecosystems in the Southern Indian Ocean, Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle (France and Southern Indian Ocean)


The Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris, France are seeking candidates for a two-year postdoctoral project in the Southern Indian Ocean. The project will consist in mapping the biogeographical regions of indicator taxa of vulnerable marine ecosystems (VME indicator taxa) in the Agreement Area of the Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA).

ECSA 58 Conference postponed


The Estuaries and coastal seas in the Anthropocene Conference has been postponed until September 2021 due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. The conference will now be held from 6-10 September 2021, and will remain at its originally planned location of Hull (UK).

European Maritime Day 2020 cancelled


Due to the coronavirus and social distancing rules, European Maritime Day organisers have taken the collective decision to cancel the event. Organisers had originally planned to host the 2020 edition later in the year, but will now plan for a return for the event in 2021.
