This third, summer issue of my newsletter sees the weather in the UK as unsettled and capricious as the official guidance and national adherence to social distancing rules. On the subject of the newsletter, if you're a subscriber who's confused, apologies; I've changed the frequency from monthly to quarterly for the duration of the lockdown because, honestly, there's not too much to report.

Cornish Cornets and Masks...

Despite the paucity of events at my end, I hope you, constant readers, are bearing up well physically, mentally, and socially in these challenging times. I spent a few days in Cornwall last week with family (some pics featured above), and the contrast from eerily empty and overly cautious passers-by, to obnoxiously busy narrow streets and very few mask wearers (looking at you, Newquay) left me scratching my head, hiking up my mask and beating a hasty retreat from the crowds. It's hard to see and read about the closure of businesses, both large and small, but it seems to this observer that it's the only way to enforce social distancing, especially on those grab-them-while-you-can hot and sunny days.

But this too will pass, and I hope you and your loved ones remain safe and well. On the bright side, I'm reading lots more, and am always happy to receive any recommendations for something new, so if you've discovered a new author, please let me know!

Award-Winning Flash Fiction

I'm thrilled to share with you that Reflex Press’s anthology Volume Two, The Real Jazz Baby, has recently won the Best Anthology Award in the 2020 Saboteur Awards.

My story  Let Me Be Your Fantasy is featured, together with 160 other authors, and I’m very proud to be a small part of an award-winning selection of great flash fiction.

You can pick up a copy here: The Real Jazz Baby. Congratulations to Reflex Press, and everyone involved!

Review The Battle of Watling Street for a Free Copy!

I'm always on the lookout for honest reviews on my books — and since we're (mostly) all in lockdown, I'd love to offer you a free ebook copy of my novella. It's offered gratis, for free, with no obligation of a review, but I'd really appreciate one!

It's a novella, so a quick read, and I welcome your review, be it good, bad or indifferent! Reviews really help authors sell more books, and readers discover new stories. Thank you!

Please email me at
margaret@margaretmcgoverne.com to request a copy of my book, stating your preferred format - PDF or if you provide your Kindle email address, I can email a copy straight to your E-reader.

Summer Reading

Lovecraft: Four Classic Horror Stories. Illustrated by I.N.J Culbard

I've read every Lovecraft tale there is (even the juvenilia) more times than I care to mention, but this gorgeous edition of four of his stories (The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath; The Case of Charles Dexter Ward; At The Mountains of Madness; The Shadow Out of Time) beautifully illustrated by I.N.J Culbard, is a wonderful way to revisit some of them.

I'd love to hear what you're doing during this uncertain summer; whether your plans have changed, and what you're reading! Please also drop me a line if you'd a review copy of my book!

If you enjoy my newsletter, please forward it to a friend, or if you have any suggestions to make it better,  please do get in touch

Thanks, Margaret
