Sabbath School Live - Options

Hey Folks!
I hope you are doing well, and staying safe and healthy! I'm writing to you to provide you with a few updates that relate to our local congregation.

First, I'm happy to announce that this past Tuesday (June 30), our church board voted to follow the Georgia-Cumberland Conference recommendation that Pastor Matthew Durante serve as our next associate pastor. Pastor Matthew is a dynamic young adult who has a passion for youth and young adult ministries. The tentative plan right now is for Pastor Matthew to join us at the end of August. He will be graduating from the Andrews University Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree on the first weekend in August. He and his wife Kathryn (Kat) will then need a few weeks to make arrangements to relocate to Knoxville and get settled in the area, so his target start date will be Sabbath, August 29. We also want to keep Pastor Rod, Meghan, and Mila in our prayers as they relocate to Maryland. We are so thankful for their faithful service to our church over these past three years.

Second, most of you have probably heard by now that the Knox County Board of Health (KCBH) passed a regulation yesterday (July 1, 2020) requiring that face coverings must be worn in most public indoor places. Because some of you have contacted me with questions about this issue, there are some venues and circumstances that are exempt from this order, which include houses of worship. The KCBH is strongly recommending the use of face coverings in houses of worship, but at this point in time they are not required.  In light of this information (as I have stated before), each of us has an individual responsibility to make the best choices possible to protect our health during this challenging time. Once again, we must evaluate all available information about this present pandemic and take the best steps that we personally feel are necessary to preserve our well-being and the wellbeing of others around us.

So that you have the most current information, I've attached a copy of the signed "face covering" order by the KCBH from yesterday (see points 4 and 5-k from this order), as well as a copy of Governor Lee's recommended policy regarding precautions for houses of worship. Feel free to contact me with any questions that you might have. Once again, stay safe, healthy, and faithful!

Blessings,
Pastor Marcus

THE SHOPPING CART
(Don't know who wrote this, but it's a good analogy I think)

The shopping cart is the ultimate litmus test for whether a person is capable of self-governing.

To return the shopping cart is an easy, convenient task and one which we all recognize as the correct, appropriate thing to do. To return the shopping cart is objectively right. There are no situations other than dire emergencies in which a person is not able to return their cart. Simultaneously, it is not illegal to abandon your shopping cart. Therefore the shopping cart presents itself as the apex example of whether a person will do what's right without being forced to do it. No one will punish you for not returning the shopping cart, no one will fine you or kill you for not returning the shopping cart, you gain nothing by returning the shopping cart. You must return the shopping cart because it's the right thing to do. Because it is correct.

The Shopping Cart is what determines whether a person is a good or bad member of society.

Today, as never before, we as Seventh-day Adventist Christians have the opportunity to replace the "shopping cart" in society because it's the right thing to do. Are we "following the crowd" or doing the right thing?
