4 Fun Fourth of July Activities That Will Make You Feel Extra Patriotic, even without the Fireworks this year.

Good food. Good company. Can't lose!

Independence Day is almost here, which means only one thing: It's time to celebrate with some Fourth of July recipes, great company, and the best Fourth of July activities!  Of course, the holiday might look a little different this year, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic — but that certainly doesn't mean you can't still have a blast staying at home!   (thank you to Goodhousekeeping.com for these tips)

1.  Bake some patriotic desserts. You can't celebrate America's birthday without some red, white, and blue desserts! After baking some of the best cupcakes, brownies, and 4th of July cakes, the whole family can join in on the festive decorating — or even compete in a friendly bake-off.

2.  Have a backyard movie night.  Level up your standard movie night by setting up a screening — and some cozy seating — right out on your lawn, then picking out an All-American movie that's perfect for the holiday. Don't forget the popcorn!  RELATED: The 25 Best Patriotic 4th of July Movies to Watch This Holiday

3.  BBQ - Fire up the grill for some great eats! Hot dogs and burgers are essential, of course, but don't forget the tasty apps (and some festive drinks to cool off in the heat).  RELATED: 59 Easy 4th of July Recipes Your Family Will Devour

4. Have a jam session - It's no party without great music, so get some sing-a-long tunes going with your favorite patriotic songs on the guitar (or even just on the speakers). Belting out "Party in the U.S.A." is a must, obviously!  RELATED: 15 Patriotic Fourth of July Songs You Need to Add to Your Playlist

Reminder: Hilltop Park, Sunset View Park, and Discovery Well Park will be closed to all members of the public, including all residents, starting at dawn on Friday, July 3, through dawn on Monday, July 6. Again, this is to prevent crowding and congregating, to slow the spread of COVID-19. For more details on these closures, please visit the city website .

Seniors, pets, veterans, those experiencing mental illness, and many others are especially disturbed by fireworks.

In the City of Signal Hill, the possession, sale or use of illegal fireworks is a misdemeanor, which could be punishable by a fine up to $1,000 or by imprisonment up to six months.

On Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4, the Signal Hill Police Department is restricting access to the Signal Hill Hilltop area and surrounding areas from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on each day. These closures are to support the L.A. County Health Officer Order that currently prohibits gatherings and congregating in public places.
