There have been some recent developments that Pyrford Neighbourhood Forum (PNF) thought you might like to be aware about.
SHEER HOUSE DEVELOPMENT UPDATE
PNF has been sent a press release from Retirement Villages Group, the new owners of the Sheer House site. Retirement Villages Group was acquired by AXA Investment Managers – Real Assets in 2017. The Group currently has 16 retirement villages, mostly located in the south west, midlands and south of England.
Some of the key points from the press release are:-
“The new owners will be investing £90 million to create a retirement led, mixed-use development. They are proposing around 200 homes with a mix of apartment sizes for sale and rent. The scheme will feature a wide range of amenities including a wellness centre, a new pedestrianised square enclosed by boutique-style retail and leisure uses, a replacement public library and car park.
James Ahearne, Development Director at Retirement Villages Group, said, ‘Our proposed scheme will deliver integrated place-making centred around the new public square at the heart of West Byfleet. We know that the public expects an improvement on the old office block, car park and shopping arcade, and has done for some time.
We are intent on curating a solution that will be seen as an integral part of the village. ‘As well as the public library and carparking, we hope to attract independent local businesses to occupy the retail units, which will be included as part of the redevelopment. This will generate both enhanced community value and deliver amenity to our residents.’
James added, ‘Our project team will be consulting closely with the local community and stakeholders as we seek approval for minor changes to the consented scheme to enable construction to start as soon as possible.’”

SOME SURREY COUNTY COUNCIL LIBRARIES OPENING SOON
Surrey County Council (SCC) has announced that some libraries will open from Monday 6th July.
In this area, Woking, Weybridge & Guildford are among this tranche.
Customers will be able to visit open libraries to browse and borrow books, but they won’t be able to use public computers and printing services, nor will they be able to read newspapers, use study spaces or seating areas.
As well as a free reservation service, customers can also take advantage of ‘ready reads’ – a new service where they tell the library what books they enjoy and library staff handpick a selection for them to collect from their nearest open library.
In the meantime, all loans, including rental items (e.g. DVDs), are extended until at least the 4 September 2020. You will not need to take any action if you already have items on loan, and no extra rental will be charged.

WOKING BOROUGH COUNCIL ANNOUNCES PARKING CHARGES TO RESUME
Woking Borough Council has announced that they are reintroducing all parking restrictions suspended in March from:-.
Monday 29 June: single yellow line restrictions will be reinstated in residential areas. On-street pay and display machines will be in operation. Single yellow line restrictions are already in force in Woking town centre.
Wednesday 1 July: Council-owned car parks across borough will resume charges.

BEWARE OAK PROCESSIONARY MOTH
Unfortunately, nests have been found in the Pyrford area, so please take care.
It poses a risk to human and animal health.
Do not touch the larvae or caterpillars or disturb any nests.
The caterpillar of this moth emerges in April every year and their tiny hairs contain a protein which can cause itchy skin rashes and less frequently, eye and throat irritations and breathing difficulties in people and animals. The hairs can be blown in the wind and left in their nests in and under oak trees. The key periods are:-
- March and April - nests should not be approached at any time.
- May to July - this is the greatest risk period when the caterpillars are most numerous.

PYRFORD LOCKDOWN SONG UPDATE
The last newsletter mentioned the Pyrford Lockdown song.
Its existence and popularity have clearly spread, as the singer Ian Wishart was interviewed on BBC Radio Surrey on Friday 26 June 2020 at c 07:25. The idea was to raise funds for Woking Hospice & NHS charities and so far people have donated around £2,000. He has made a follow up called the Surrey Song. Links:-
