Good Day Paddlers, Canoe Journey & Brigade Friends;
We trust that this brief e-mail finds you making the best of this pandemic and that you have been able to at least paddle a little, whether it be by tandem, solo, canoe or kayak. We trust that given social distancing requirements... your big canoes have not been out! Your executive asked at the last exec meeting that we needed to try and keep thoughts of big canoe paddling alive for this season and hopefully build towards a full season of such paddling and brigades in 2021. We also thought a few more stories and articles about the development of big canoe brigades may just stir up additional interest, and maybe even a brigade or three more for 2021 and into the future.
Our new president Brian Smith has submitted an article about the development of Big Canoe Paddling and Brigades in Nova Scotia, and I have submitted an article about the critical factors that led to the success of the 2008 David Thompson Brigade. These a future 2020 articles will be found here:
Yes, we expect more such articles and stories, we have one "in the can", thanks Rick, and another on the way... right Ted? And we'd welcome additional submissions. Nothing too long, nothing too polished, anything that highlights our past, or suggests our future! You can submit such to me directly here.
And we are pleased to report that the postponed Passing the Paddle - Peace River Canoe Brigade planning crew is till planning on competing their event next summer... pretty much as advertised. And Tim from the Kirk Whipper Voyageur Centre has even suggest that he may run both the proposed 2020 and 2021 brigades next summer. Stay tuned!
