Updates and Resources for Local Independent Businesses During COVID-19

Good Evening, friends,

We’re letting you know of a few funding opportunities that are becoming available, general updates, and some with deadlines that are approaching. Remember, as a benefit of your SBN membership; we share the following resource opportunities with you. Please see below.

SBN remains committed to providing our members with relevant content, meaningful community, and effective advocacy.

COVID-19 & Civil Unrest Related Funding Updates

Restore and Reopen Grants – Application Deadline: June 28th at 11:59 p.m.

  • The grant program provides grants to small, independently-owned businesses in historically disadvantaged communities that have suffered property damage, vandalism, or inventory losses during the recent civil unrest.
  • Grants will be made up to $10K depending on the extent of the business’s damage and needs.

Paycheck Protection Program - Application Deadline: June 30th

Please note: Funding for the Paycheck Protection Program may run out before the June 30th deadline.

  • The loan provides a direct incentive for small businesses to keep their workers on the payroll. SBA will forgive loans if all employees are retained on payroll for eight weeks, and the money can be used for rent, mortgage interest, or utilities.
  • The Paycheck Protection Program’s EZ version application requires fewer calculations and less documentation for eligible borrowers. Both forms give borrowers the option of using the original 8-week covered period (if their loan was made before June 5th, 2020) or an extended 24-week covered period. These changes will make it easier for businesses to receive full forgiveness of their PPP loan.
  • These Community Development Finance Institutions (CDFIs) are now accepting applications from Philadelphia small businesses and non-profits: The Enterprise Center, Lendistry, Reinvestment Fund.
  • The SBA has also issued a Borrower Loan Forgiveness Application.

PA Statewide Small Business Grants - Application Opens: June 30th (will remain open for ten days)

  • The Department of Community and Economic Development has allocated $225 million for COVID-19 relief to small businesses throughout the state distributed through CDFIs.
  • The program provides grants ranging from $5K - $50K to small businesses economically impacted by COVID-19. There will be multiple rounds of application windows.

PA 30-Day Fund – OPEN

  • The non-profit fund provides forgivable loans for Pennsylvania-based small businesses. The forgivable loan is intended to provide immediate financial assistance (within a maximum of three days) to meet payroll, preserve healthcare coverage for employees, and save jobs while they wait recently approved federal funding.

Philadelphia Water Department Stormwater Grants – Application Deadline: July 1st

  • Stormwater grants pay for the design and construction of stormwater retrofit projects on non-residential properties in Philadelphia.
  • Stormwater retrofit projects provide an opportunity to add new landscaping, fix drainage problems, and improve the appearance of a property. After a project is complete, the property owner qualifies for lower stormwater charges on his or her monthly bill.
