Message from DG Jason Long

District 14-M Lions,

I am looking forward to serving as your District Governor this year. I want to thank everyone for their well wishes and support. I also want to thank everyone who has agreed to serve the district this year. It is the beginning of a new year and a fresh start. Let’s all take advantage of this opportunity to develop new goals for our Clubs and come up with new ways to serve our communities. The pandemic has certainly forced us to make some changes already. It has been a challenge for Lions at all levels. The new District Governors took their oath of office in their homes by video from International President Choi instead of at the International Convention. The International Board of Directors have been meeting virtually as has the PA Council of Governors.

This week, I will be hosting virtual training for our Zone and Region Chairpersons. Many of our Clubs have also met virtually. As Pennsylvania has gone “green” some of our Clubs have been meeting in person again. I would remind those Clubs that are meeting in person that they may have some members that are not yet comfortable meeting in public just yet due to the continuing presence of the Coronavirus. Please take those members’ concerns into consideration and keep them informed of what your Club is doing through a Club newsletter or simply with a phone call or email. I’m sure they would appreciate it.

I am looking forward to our first District gathering since February at the Banner Exchange and Awards Banquet on July 19. Again, I am aware that some of our Lions are not yet comfortable meeting in groups at this time. If you are not comfortable being in a group just yet, I urge you to be cautious. I will certainly understand if you choose not to come to the Banner Exchange. Your health and safety are important to all of us. I want to keep the atmosphere relaxed, so dress for the Cabinet will be informal summer greens.

I have not yet worked out my schedule of Club visits due to the ongoing uncertainty related to COVID-19. I will have a schedule soon, and I will get it out to the district as soon as it is completed. I hope you all had a great 4th. Stay healthy, stay safe, and keep serving your communities.
.
Yours in Service,
DG Jason Long

Message from 2nd VDG Bernie Fox

Thanks for everyone who voted for me to become 2nd Vice-District Governor.  I will work hard and do my best to make the district proud to say they belong to District 14M.

The Young Lions Ambassador of the 21st Century Awards went to the following students:
1st. Place:  Garrity Lynn Baumgard, Connellsville High School
2nd. Place:  Emmi Schad, Laurel Highlands High School
3rd.  Place:  Aaron Hitchcock,  Albert Gallatin High School

We wish all graduating seniors the best in their  future endeavors.

I hope all have made it through the coronavirus without too many issues. Just remember to wear your masks because you never know who might have the virus.

The Greene County Clubs are slowly getting back to normalcy.  Our Sounds of Summer have started and are including a few new vendors as well as the Farmers Market, every Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00.

Have a safe July and we’ll talk soon.
2nd VDG Bernie Fox

“Bragging About our Family”

June 2020

One of the clubs in our District will share their FAMILY pride with everyone. The club that I pick for this month is the Dunbar Twp. Lions and the Dunbar Twp. Lioness Clubs

ACTIVITIES FOR June

They voted to donate $500 each to the following fire departments: Dawson, DL&V, Dunbar and Flatwoods.
They also made a motion to donate $500 to Sydney Michael, 10 year old, who suffers from Dravet Syndrome, a rare seizure disorder and for of epilepsy.

I will be doing the Bragging report for at least one more month, so even though you don’t send in your M&A report to IPD George please email them to me at rosemarieandrako@gmail.com   until Governor Jason finds someone to do the reporting.

Beacon Lodge News Article

Beacon Lodge is quiet and still and will remain that way for the 2020 Camping season. The Covid -19 virus has ended the camping season. Beacon Lodge is planning to be open two weekends in August for PLAD and the Golf Outing.

Pennsylvania Lions Appreciations Day (PLAD) is now scheduled for Sunday August 23, 2020. There will not be campers in attendance to present their annual talent show but many of the other activities of PLAD will be available for Lions who attend this event. This is a great chance to visit Beacon Lodge and see how beautiful the grounds are and what the camp has to offer. It is also a time to visit with Lions that you have not seen for a while since many Lions activities have been cancelled. The basket raffle and the “Great Duck Race” are two of the events that will take place. A $5.00 donation will give you have a chance to win –BIG.
1st Place -$1,000
2nd Place -$500
3rd Place $250
4th Place $125
5th Place $125
Last Place $5.00

Dan and Linda currently have Duck Race tickets. We ask that your club or you contact them for your tickets and a chance to win. We will be happy to send you the tickets if you send us the money. Please help support Camp Maintenance at Beacon Lodge.

The 4th Annual PA Lions Beacon Lodge Camp Golf Outing is scheduled for August 29th at Mount Union American Legion Country Club. Please find attached the informational sheet.

Duck Race tickets and Golf Outing - hole sponsors or cart sponsor sales have been very slow. 14-M only has one hole sponsor so far for this event. The District still has half of their Duck Race tickets to sell. As a 14-M Lions Club or an Individual Lion please think about supporting Beacon Lodge to help with camp operating expenses.

There are many other ways for Lions to support this “Special Services Camp for Children and Adults” built and maintained by Pennsylvania Lions.  Please consider supporting Beacon Lodge with monetary gifts, donations, memorials and honorariums.

If you have any questions please call 14-M’s Board of Director Linda or Liaison Dan, if no answer - leave a message.
