Texas Purple Hull Pea Festival Update
The Shankleville Historical Society made the prudent decision to not bring people from all over Texas and Louisiana to the Shankleville Community this June because of concern regarding the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The Seventh Annual Texas Purple Hull Pea Festival was cancelled; however, we are excited about resuming the festivities next June 26, 2021.
The festival has grown over the years and was featured in the June issue of Texas Highways Magazine. We expect continued growth in future based on the festival's ever-increasing attendance in the past three years.

Next year’s programming will highlight a Matthew Honer Clay Jr. Memorial Concert featuring C.J. Chenier & the Red Hot Louisiana Band. Also performing will be Derwin Daniels & Friends. Festival activities will kick off at 9:00 a.m. with a number of pea-related contests including pea cooking and pea shelling.
