We missed you Saturday!

The last Saturday of June is usually the annual Ridgway RiverFest, when the Uncompahgre Watershed Partnership hosts a celebration of our watershed. We had to cancel the festival due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but I spent the weekend thinking about all our wonderful volunteers and how they put their hearts into entertaining and educating festival-goers. UWP is truly committed to sharing information about our watershed through this event and several others throughout the year. Please read the announcements in this email to learn about other opportunities to learn about the natural resources in our watershed.

In honor of RiverFest, which also highlights outdoor recreation's relationship with the Upper Uncompahgre River Watershed, I have revived my efforts to organize a UWP Recreation Committee. Like our Technical Committee that provides input and helps advise our board and contractors on our mine reclamation projects, our new Recreation Committee would give a voice to locals who are active in outdoor recreation. This group would help our nonprofit board and contractors develop projects beneficial in riparian areas such as fish habitat improvement, informational signage, and stream bank restoration.

To find out about joining the Recreation Committee and our paid Committee Coordinator opening, go to the UWP Website blog post.

Please Help UWP with its Next Strategic Plan

The board of the Uncompahgre Watershed Partnership will meet in August to develop our nonprofit's Strategic Plan for 2021-2023. This important plan will guide our use of the community's donations and determine what new funding is necessary to take next steps in accomplishing our mission: protecting and improving the Upper Uncompahgre River Watershed. You can see our 2018-2020 Strategic Plan online.

YOUR INPUT can help the UWP board make decisions during our strategic planning process. Please email Tanya at uwpcommunications@gmail.com to share your ideas about where our focus should be in the next three years. You can also download, fill out and return this Stakeholder Questionnaire, or fill it out on this Online Form. Thank you!

Well Water Testing in Western Colorado

Please help our public health departments understand well usage in a six-county area. This survey is for homeowners with a private well (or spring) that is used for drinking water in Delta, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Montrose, Ouray, and San Miguel counties. The estimated time to complete the survey is 10 minutes. The survey will be closed at 11:59 p.m. on June 30, 2020; only one survey per household submitted by an adult 18+years. At the end of the survey you may opt in for entry in the drawings of $25 Amazon gift cards. There is no cost or purchase required. To access the online survey, visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/wellwatertesting.

To find out more information about the well testing program, go to the West Central Public Health Partnership website.

Please note: the free well testing program has ended and final results are now being compiled.
Thank you to the volunteers who helped UWP clean up Rollans Park on June 13! We appreciate your time and efforts (plus we had a fun time together on the river banks).
