PAW PRINTS for June 2020
July is National Lost Pet Prevention Month, and now is a good time to be sure all of your pets have collars with updated ID tags, and microchips to help them find their way safely, and quickly, back to you if they are ever lost. Fourth of July celebrations often create an increase in lost pets due to activities and fireworks. While this year ‘s celebrations might be smaller, and many major firework demonstrations have been cancelled, it’s still important to stay aware, and keep your furry friends safe.

It is also National Pet Hydration Awareness Month, so make sure all of your pets have plenty of shade and water during hotter summer months!

The Fluvanna SPCA shelter building is still closed to the public.

We continue working to do our part to help cut down on the spread of COVID-19, and with our animals' and employees' best interests in mind by reducing foot traffic. The animals at the shelter continue to receive wonderful care just as they normally do, so no need to worry.

If you are interested in adopting, fostering, or if you would like to drop off donations during this time, you can make an appointment to do so by contacting our shelter manager: manager@fspca.org.

We appreciate your understanding and support during this difficult time for everyone, and we will be sure to keep you updated as soon as we will be open again to the public.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

DONATE!  We are still experiencing a significant drop in income from the decrease in activities and having to cancel all off-site fundraisers. As an organization that depends on your generosity to feed and care for hundreds of animals, we are worried about how this loss of revenue will affect the animals who depend on us especially in regards to vet visits. Will you consider helping us through these uncertain times by giving today? The FSPCA is not affiliated with any national animal welfare organizations and receives no ongoing funding from the ASPCA, the Humane societies, or any other shelter around us. Your gift to us goes directly to our organization here at the FSPCA.
Thank you for your support and stay safe!

  • The shelter is currently in need  of Monetary donations. You can view and order from our Amazon Wishlist. Remember to go through Amazon Smile to increase your donation. Thank you all for your generous donations!
  • Fostering! We are always in need of caring fosters, and now more than ever!  We currently have 4 dogs and 4 cats that can still be fostered and/or adopted that are still at the shelter. For more information, please call us at 434-591-0123. Learn more here: http://fspca.org/foster.html .

Pizza! Ordering in these days? Remember that your online order to our Palmyra Papa John’s makes a donation to the shelter at the same time!
PUPDATES! Meet 2.5 year old Star. Star was surrendered to the shelter when her previous family could no longer care for her. They shared that she is good with children and other dogs. Star will need to be in a home without cats though.

Until now, Star lived all her life outdoors, and had never been inside a home, so she is not housebroken. She is very sweet, but scared right now, and will need some time and patience to come around. Star has never been walked on leash until now--when the leash is put on her, she immediately goes to the ground, so will need some extra time and training.

If you have another dog and would like to meet with Star, please call the shelter to make an appointment for a meet and greet with your dog. Star is current on all vaccinations. Contact our shelter staff to give this cutie a second chance today. <3
KITTY TALES! Meet  3 year-old medium hair kitty Grimlin! Grimlin came to the shelter as a pregnant Mama in waiting, and was fostered by one of our wonderful foster families. Now she and her babies are ready for homes of their very own. Grimlin loves sitting close to you and receiving attention. She is very laid back, and would be a great companion. Her foster family reports that Gremlin has a wonderful personality and is an all around  great cat. She is current on all vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. You can meet Grimlin by visiting our friends at Petsmart 425 Merchant Walk Square Charlottesville, Va 22902
Won’t you give her a chance to become part of a loving furever family? <3

FOREVER HOMES <3 Grateful for the lovely update we received this week on FSPCA alum Ally from her wonderful adoptive parents Cathy and Bob:

"We adopted Miss Ally July 22, 2018. Ally (now 5 years old) is a mixed Brittany/English Springer Spaniel. She is our southern belle, living with us in south central Pennsylvania. Not saying that we haven’t had our challenges--most families do with dogs like Ally who have spent long periods in a shelter setting, but she has grown into a wonderful companion, and enjoys her days in the window and taking romps and walks outside. Plus, she is wonderful with our grandsons who love her dearly.

Being in and out of your shelter for 3 years, Ally had never found her forever home. High strung and timid, Ally was very mistrustful, but has grown into a loving and caring member of the family. The sporting dog in her appeared this Spring as she chased rabbits and squirrels around our yard. Relocating rugs in the house is a daily event as she plays with her toys. Our neighbors have fallen in love with Ally as she visits them from time to time. For those who have never adopted a timid pet, patience and time is the key--kind words and reinforcement lead to a heart of gold, and a lifelong friendship. If only she could speak, we would know what her past history was, but these past two years have been trial and error as we have brought her into the comfort of her knowing that our home is her home. We heart-fully believe that she now knows and understands that, and you can see the tenderness we receive from her."

Thank you for giving Ally such a wonderful place to call "Forever Home." We love adoption updates, and hope each of our shelter pets find just such happy-ever-afters.  <3
