In keeping with Federal and State guidelines for COVID-19 protection all club events are cancelled through 30 July. The club grounds are open for walking; the dock and beach launching area are open for recreational boating. Bathrooms are available. The pavilion is open at a 20 person capacity. Social distancing applies.

 Commodore's Corner
As most of you know, Maryland entered Phase II of COVID restrictions and “reopening”. This has permitted us to open up the pavilion for limited use not to exceed 20 persons. We have moved some of the club boats and launches to accommodate this. So now, in addition to the dock and beach areas and bathrooms you may also utilize the pavilion subject to social distancing and sanitizing the area when done (pack out your trash). The heads are available for use by one person at a time. Please sanitize (you provide) and clean up after yourselves. The heads will be cleaned on a weekly basis. Practice Social Distancing (SD) on the grounds and don’t gather in large groups. Wear masks as appropriate.
We are still early on reopening and recovery. Based on a potential resurgence of COVID, we could see a re-imposition of quarantining and stay-at-home orders. Please use common sense and don’t let the desire to enjoy the summer allow you to endanger yourself or others.
Beginning Saturday, 4 July, the board is establishing a club “host” or “duty officer”. The host will be around several times a day on weekends from now until labor day to answer questions, help launch boats, do some minor maintenance projects and generally keep an eye on the grounds.
The board will host a question and answer session after the regular board meeting on 26 July. The Q&A will begin at 1200 at the club. New members are especially invited to attend. Members are invited to share their constructive thoughts and ideas on how to improve the club. There will be open sailing after the meeting for those interested. Bring a mask. No food or beverage will be provided.

 Buildings and Grounds

The new schoolhouse is in the final planning stages and will hopefully be delivered this summer. This asset will greatly increase capabilities for both the schoolhouse and race management. The cost is in the $7,000 range and we are currently seeking donations, large or small, to help defray the club expenditure. A letter detailing the new schoolhouse including photos and diagrams will be forthcoming.
Dinghy Dock – We have expanded the dinghy dock by moving the extra floating dock to the end of the current dinghy dock. Dinghy owners who utilize the dinghy dock please provide input to contact@cryc.org regarding the elimination of the dinghy dock and other options for dinghy storage. The current dinghy dock is inadequate for the number of moorings in use and the subsequent encroachment onto the schools dock must be remedied. We are reviewing the options for a dinghy ramp and rack on the hard.
WANTED: Metal Wall Lockers / Metal Cabinets. The club seeks to organize the storeroom with more rodent proof lockers and cabinets. Several lockers / cabinets approximately 6 ft H X 3 ft W X 2 ft D would be ideal to store race committee flags, maintenance items, food service items, and paper products. Purchase or donations will be considered on a case by case basis prior to acceptance by the club.
Pavillion Ceiling Fans and lights: We are in the process of rewiring the fans and lights to enable members to operate the pavillion fans and lights on a timer from within the mens head.
Also please remember that the club has no trash service. Pack it in, pack it out!

100K Fund: We have moved $2000.00 from O&M into the long term Capital fund bringing the total to $12000.00. The contribution for this fund is usually derived from the YMCA camps rental and is intended to grow to $100,000.00 by 2050 as seed money in the event that CRYC had to relocate to another site when our lease runs out.

Rock Hall Yacht Club is offering limited individual and small group lessons this summer.
The Rock Hall Yacht Club Sailing School is open and teaching sailing this summer! The focus at RHYCSS is Private & Group Lessons for Beginners and Intermediate and Advanced Sailing classes for more independent/experienced sailors. They have a summer 2020 Preparedness Plan which addresses the COVID-19 situation, keeping class sizes small, and focuses on cleanliness and safety of students and instructors both on the water and ashore. ANNUAL REGATTA – It is with a no small measure of regret that that the board has made the decision to cancel the CRYC Annual Regatta. Even with Governor Hogan’s phased glide slope for returning to normalcy and after reviewing other yacht clubs and sailing class associations’ plans the board felt that we just could not get to “yes”.

The club fleet box containing paddles and lifejackets etc. is available for use. Please fill out the forms located in the box and return items clean when done. The usage data that these forms generate helps the club justify purchasing additional equipment. Tie down boats when done. Please note that club membership entitles you to use boats from the club fleet rack… You are not entitled to use private boats residing on racks A and B without the owner’s permission.
Fleet sailboats are no longer available. We have been notified by our insurance company that fleet sailboats – Optis, 420’s and Lasers may no longer be signed out for individual use by members unless accompanied by a chase boat. This is disappointing, however we must observe this ruling in order to limit the clubs liability. In order to mitigate this, we will offer a chase boat during club sponsored open sail events.
Open Sailing. We will provide interested members with an opportunity to enjoy Friday evening or weekend sailing by operating a chase boat during those times. Please email ideas and interest to Gail Owings at seabiscuit@baybroadband.net or contact@cryc.org. Our first “open sail” will occur on 26 July at about noon- until done. Earlier dates may be available by contacting the above.

Person Overboard Seminar (health regulations permitting)
Corsica River Yacht Club will be hosting America’s Boating Club Kent Narrows (formerly Kent Narrows Sail and Power Squadron) free seminar at CRYC on Saturday, August 15 at 10:00 am. The two-hour Person Overboard Seminar and On-the-Water Workshop will begin on land with the seminar component and follow with an on-the-water component to practice our skills.
People fall overboard, especially in rough weather and high seas. Discover how to equip and maneuver your boat to retrieve someone in the water. Essential for all boaters, this seminar teaches you what to do if you fall overboard as well as how to retrieve someone else. No matter where you boat -- on the Chesapeake Bay, lake, or ocean -- this course is for you! What's included?
