Danone Uses AI Technology to Identify Phytonutrients in Supply Chain
Company partners with biosciences company Brightseed

Broomfield-based Danone North America announced a partnership with Brightseed, a biosciences company which maps plant nutrients using artificial intelligence, to identify previously unknown nutritional benefits from plant-based ingredients used in Danone products. Beginning with research on soy, the partnership is designed to help Danone improve nutritional aspects of its products and expand into new plant-based categories.

Alfalfa’s Local Market Unveils New Store and Concept
New store expected to provide 65-75 local jobs

Boulder-county based Alfalfa’s Local Market will open a new location and concept in Longmont, CO. The independent natural foods retailer will open a 23,000 square-foot store at 700 Ken Pratt Blvd. in late summer 2020. The new store will offer curbside pick-up and same-day delivery. Alfalfa's will hold a job fair mid-July.

Meati Foods Launches First-Ever Fungi-Based Steak with Superfood Nutrition Label  
Meati Foods was previously known as Emergy Foods

Boulder-based Meati Foods, a fungi-based protein company, launched the first-to-market whole muscle steak alternative last month at sustainability-driven SALT Bistro in Boulder. Meati Foods provided the product for free to support the restaurant during difficult times. Three ounces of Meati Fungi-Based Steak contains 17 grams of complete protein, 8 grams of fiber, 90% DV for vitamin B12, more potassium than a banana, and zero cholesterol. The company expects additional restaurant partners soon and nationwide accessibility through direct-to-consumer sales in Q4 of 2020.

Planterra Foods Launches Plant-Based Protein Line
Clean protein option available at Safeway stores throughout CO 

Lafayette-based Planterra Foods makes its debut this month in Safeway and Albertsons stores across Colorado and through direct-to-consumer sales with its line of OZO plant-based protein. Products include OZO Burgers, Ground and Mexican-Seasoned Ground, all powered by a proprietary blend of pea and rice protein fermented by shiitake mushrooms. The protein offerings are vegan-certified, non-GMO and contain soy-free ingredients. OZO vans are traveling across Colorado sharing free freshly cooked samples.

Cappello's Debuts Two Almond Flour Pizza Varieties 
White Pizza and Margherita Pizza available nationwide 

Denver-based Cappello's, makers of grain-free, frozen-fresh foods, is bringing their line of nutrient-dense almond flour crust pizzas to retailers nationwide, including Whole Foods Market and various natural grocers. Cappello's expanded its line of pizzas with two new vegetarian offerings: a White Pizza and a Margherita Pizza.

DAR Chocolate Launches Truffle Bar Line 
Soon available throughout CO in all Whole Foods Market stores

Denver-based craft chocolate maker Dar Chocolate is launching a line of low-sugar, dairy-free Truffle Bars. Created with the support of the Whole Foods Market Specialty Team, the three SKU’s (Almond, Cashew, Pomegranate) will soon be available in all 19 Colorado Whole Foods Market stores and other local retailers.

Doctor D's Sparkling Probiotic Cans Now Available at Retailers Nationwide 
Goal is to be glass-free by December 2020

Louisville-based Doctor D’s Sparkling Probiotic announced retail availability of its new eco-friendly packaging in BPA-free cans. Publix Super Markets launched the new can design in all 1,251 locations in June, while Whole Foods Market stores in the Rocky Mountain Region will be the first to introduce the canned Lime Mint Mojito.

Noosa Yoghurt Supports Local Colorado Organizations and Feeding America  
Each purchase of Blueberry Noosa furthers the company’s impact

Bellevue-based Noosa Yoghurt is donating 1.5 million meals to hunger-focused nonprofit Feeding America as part of their ongoing efforts. The company also donated more than 11,000 of its yogurts to Food Bank of the Rockies and more than 13,000 to Children's Hospital. Promotional packaging on its "fan favorite" Blueberry Noosa raises awareness of the company's efforts and impact.

“I and Love and You” Donates More Than One Million Meals to Rescue Shelters and Food Banks Nationwide 
Company increases monthly donations in response to COVID-19 

Boulder-based “I and love and you,” maker of premium, holistic pet food and treats, has donated more than one million meals to animal welfare organizations nationwide. Since 2016, “I and love and you” has donated approximately 2,000 meals for dogs and cats each month to organizations across the country helping pets find homes. This month, the brand surpassed the milestone of one million meals donated with its amplified COVID-19 relief efforts.

Creative Alignments Introduces CA Launch  

Career Accelerator for college graduates begins July 13 
In response to the impact COVID-19 is having on recent college graduates who are looking to enter the job market, Creative Alignments has created a career accelerator called “CA Launch.” The 8-week online program starts July 13 and participants can choose from three tracks: Natural Products, Technology Industries and General. CA Launch also has opportunities for guest speakers and mentors.

Engaging Sampling Opportunity   

CoCo helps Naturally Boulder brands engage sustainably
CoCo is a compost collection service and a sustainable delivery service employing an innovative "bucket swap" to collect members' full compost buckets weekly and deliver local goods in a fresh, sanitized bucket. CoCo intends for this program to help local brands to distribute product samples. To facilitate brand engagement with consumers, CoCo offers to deliver product samples to their 400+ members.

New Hope Network Cancels Natural Products Expo East 2020 Due to COVID-19 

New Hope launches Spark Change to help brands gain exposure
Boulder-based New Hope Network has announced the cancellation of Natural Products Expo East 2020. The conference was to be the first Expo East held in Philadelphia. New Hope stated that the 2021 edition of the event will be held next September. 

New Hope has created a digital events and content series called Spark Change. Beginning in August, Spark Change will guide the natural and organic products community through a virtual journey of product discovery, education and connection. Brands and innovators will have the opportunity to get in front of retail buyers, consumer influencers, investors and others via digital storytelling and product sampling; retailers and others will be able to navigate innovation based on theme, trend and product category; and the entire community will have access to interactive and actionable conference education and digital networking.

The 2020 GreenBiz 30 Under 30 Recognizes Alyssa Harding   

Alyssa is celebrated for her work in sustainability
Congratulations to Alyssa Harding, Naturally Boulder board member, for earning a spot on The 2020 GreenBiz 30 Under 30! Alyssa, a fountain of energy and optimism, has a background in agricultural ecology and a successful track record of developing scalable sustainability programs in the natural products industry. She serves as Secretary of the Board of Directors for Naturally Boulder and has served as the Executive Director for the Sustainable Food Trade Association, managed sustainability programs with Naturally Boulder sponsor Justin’s, and is now starting a new path as Operations and Sustainable Packaging Collaborative Director for OSC2. The cohort of winners is composed of young sustainability leaders (representing seven different countries) who were nominated by GreenBiz readers and community members around the world. Well deserved, Alyssa!
