SHAME ON THEM!

The restaurant industry at the Jersey Shore was let down on so many levels this week. First, by kids who gathered at popular watering holes and ignored the rules for masks and social distancing. Second, by greedy

owners who valued profits over safety by allowing them to do it. Third, by municipalities who didn't police their restaurants for compliance and finally by our Governor who just doesn't get it.

Rather than close down the offenders to teach everyone a lesson, the good Governor rescinded the order to open up inside dining, "indefinitely", thereby penalizing everyone for a few bad apples. Now we have all these restaurants who were bringing staff back and had ordered product for the July 4th weekend taking another shot to the jaw. And how about the people who were coming off unemployment to return to their jobs....now they have to re-apply and wait to get paid again?

Here's my two cents. Municipalities should be responsible for policing their restaurants and bars. Spot visits should yield tickets to individuals (guest and staff) who are not in compliance. Venues should receive a stiff fine for not being in compliance. My guess is a $5,000 fine will get a venue to enforce protocols pretty quickly.

In the meantime, we urge you to make reservations at restaurants with outside dining this weekend and if you can't get a reservation, please order take-out. If we are not supportive of our restaurant community at this time, we are going to lose some of our favorites.

WINE FINDS BY CYNTHIA

2018 Bruno Giacosa Roero Arneis $28.99

Wine Advocate: The 2018 Roero Arneis is a fragrant and linear white wine with plenty of spicy lemon, tangerine and
crushed stone aromas. The 2017 vintage of this wine (from a hotter vintage) showed more tropical fruit, whereas this cooler vintage offers more citrus and mineral notes. READ MORE
