RCC to install new and improved data infrastructure
RCC is in the process of installing new software and hardware infrastructure to power the University of Queensland’s next-generation research data archiving and storage platform.
The DMF7 hardware is being installed in Springfield's Polaris Data Centre where some of UQ's HPC infrastructure is housed.
The infrastructure, the latest version of Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s (HPE) Data Management Framework 7 (DMF7), is part of UQ’s ongoing and significant investment in research data storage capabilities.
Unlike the current version of DMF, DMF7 scales to trillions of storage objects. It will provide UQ researchers and the University’s growing Research Data Manager (RDM) platform, with a sustainable path for continual data growth. It will enable far more data to be stored and faster data transfers.

Research Data Management at UQ
Open Data and UQRDM
Open data initiatives are in place around the world, with the aim of making research data more discoverable, reusable and speeding up scientific discovery. UQRDM supports open data by allowing you to publish your datasets to UQ eSpace.
Recently, we have seen statements such as the Wellcome Trust Statement on data sharing in public health emergencies and the Open COVID Pledge. Using the UQRDM data management system allows researchers to make their datasets more open, while still retaining credit and acknowledgment for the work.
