| The South Carolina State Fair has made some changes this year that will surely deliver a fair like no other. On October 20 + 21, get ready to drive up to the fairgrounds, located at 1200 Rosewood Dr., for a drive-thru style event featuring attractions, food + animals. Basically, most of our favorite things that we love about the SC State Fair – in a safe environment. As an added bonus, admission will be free. |

What does that mean?
State fair attendees won’t have to worry about parking or the heat this year at the drive-thru style fair. There will be attractions that highlight SC’s agriculture, history, arts and culture to check out all from the comfort + safety of your cars.
To help make sure you get your foot-long corn dogs, funnel cake + fair fries fix this year, officials have planned a restaurant drive-thru concept, literally. Guests will be able to drive into the Lexington Medical Center Fair Park, also located on the fairgrounds, and purchase all their favorite fair foods.
The only ride this year will be the one you show up in, or your car. While rides are a quintessential part of the fair experience, the traditional fair rides will not be available due to safety precautions.
Keep an eye out for the State Fair’s Ride of Your Life Scholarship recipients celebration exhibit. The State Fair nonprofit awards scholarships to help students across South Carolina pursue their continued education at any SC college, university or technical college.

○ In a press conference yesterday afternoon, Gov. Henry McMaster announced that starting Monday, Aug. 3, the guidelines previously recommended for restaurants + other establishments attracting groups of people are now mandatory. A list of the now mandatory guidelines can be found here.
○ Gov. McMaster also announced that face masks will be required within all state government buildings, effective Aug. 5. (WIS)
○ Additionally, Gov. McMaster stated that, effective Aug. 3, other businesses, facilities, venues, events + mass gatherings are permitted to open with restrictions in place – including requiring face masks, limiting capacity to 50% or 250 people, whichever is less, following social distancing + more.
○ UofSC is asking for volunteers who have recovered from COVID-19 to participate in a study investigating the virus’ effects. Volunteers must be between the ages of 20-80 + have been recovered for at least two weeks. Find more information here. (WIS)
○ The Palmetto Priority program – an initiative announced by Gov. Henry McMaster earlier this month to encourage safe practices at restaurants – now has 2,500 participants across the state. According to the program, 500 of these restaurants are being added to the website each day. (CRBR)
○ Tomorrow, July 31, City of Columbia is hosting a webinar with Columbia Economic Development, Parking Services + the Mayor’s Office for a conversation about working during COVID-19. The webinar will be held on Zoom at 9:30 a.m. Register here.
○ DHEC is looking for participants in this quick survey on community engagement during the COVID-19 pandemic. Responses are anonymous and completing it takes less than five minutes. (ABC Columbia)

○ Richland County has received ~$30,000 from a federal grant to launch the teaching initiative “BEE-friend Local Pollinators.” The educational program will educate residents on pollinator conservation through an online video series beginning on Aug. 5 on the county’s YouTube page. The funds will help rehabilitate, expand + maintain an existing demonstration area at Pinewood Lake Park that will be used to provide technical assistance with pollinator conservation to educators, small farmers, and home + community gardeners. While the park is not currently accessible, lessons from the garden are.

○ The NCAA has granted schools the option to play a college football game on Aug. 29, one week earlier than the current season start. UofSC Athletic Director Ray Tanner has said that the Gamecocks will not play before the season opener on Sept. 5 against Coastal Carolina at Williams Brice Stadium. (The State)
