Today at Shumway
June 2020

The Rockford Area Arts Council's mission is simple--to support, promote, and develop access to the arts for everyone. We are the collective voice for individual artists and regional arts organizations—and you!

The Arts Council believes in the transformative power of the arts and its ability to set the tone for a city's creative and cultural infrastructure. Join us every month, for a regional update on all things music, art, performance, and culture!

For Artists
COVID-19 Relief Grants The RACVB-RAD-Arts Council Microgrants and the Artist Relief Fund remain the best, most direct source of funding for our local artist population.
Hello Rockford Region artists,
We miss you. In June, an ArtScene Survey was distributed to all our members and venue hosts. We would like your feedback, as we use the stay-at-home order to plan for the next time we can safely gather. ArtScene will change, for the better, and we hope you will participate in the visioning process.

The Arts Council applied to the National Endowment for the Arts as a subgranting organization--this shift will allow us to move from filtered dollars from the NEA to direct dollars from the NEA. In the future, we can apply for a significant investment and get a significant return, on the behalf of our community's arts organizations. We will keep you posted.

Additionally, this month, a partnership between RAD, the RACVB, and the Arts Council, presents an artist micro-grant opportunity for local artists. Artists--you can receive up to $500 for your vision or your needs!

For Arts Organizations
Resources: The Arts Council is co-chairing a Rockford Rebounding group, Arts, Culture, and Events (ACE); Rockford Rebounding is an effort led by Mayor McNamara to address the challenges of reopening our region and develop a strategic plan for our new normal. ACE is developing a comprehensive inventory of arts and culture groups, as well as local venues, to better assist the public with the development of their project and event ideas. Our new normal is looking pretty darn good!
City of Rockford Poet Laureate and Youth Poet Laureate nominations have been accepted and the applications are being processed. A diverse panel of qualified experts is reviewing application submissions in July. The finalists for both groups will be additionally evaluated by experts in the field of poetry and literature. The finalists will be announced at the Rockford Area Arts Awards in October--it is all very exciting!

Rockford's art organizations are in the Rockford Area Arts Council's  Facebook Group: Rockford Area Arts Organizations. Please add a representative of your organization to this group. Please use this private group respectfully, as a way to share information, develop relationships, post events, demonstrate support, make connections, and share relevant contacts. When you join, you will find most of our Arts Orgs partners already participating!

For the Public
We need you, art supporters...
You can support our region's arts and culture groups in three ways!
  1. We need to know what you need from us in the coming months. Please contact your favorite arts/culture organizations and voice your concerns and contribute your ideas.
  2.  We need your support--membership renewals and social media attention are simple steps you can take to make a lasting impact.
  3.  Additionally, you can purchase season tickets, register for future classes, investigate summer instruction for you and/or your child, plan a trip to visit a museum--even virtually!
We will be the recovery!
