Dear Parishioners,
The final countdown has begun for us to return to our weekday and weekend Mass schedule. Are you ready to return?
If you have not already done so, I encourage you to view the video posted on the homepage of the parish website, the latest e-newsletter, Facebook, or Instagram. It is important for you to be familiar with all the new procedures that you will be expected to follow from the moment you enter the church until you leave. All the procedures depicted in the video will be implemented for all Sunday Masses, including the Vigil Mass on Saturday evening. There will be slight modifications to the procedures for the 8:30 AM weekday Masses.
If you wish to take along with you a cheat sheet so you can anticipate what to expect, I will highlight for you the most important things for you to keep in mind as you prepare to attend Mass.

Registration is open for the 2020-2021 session of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CotGS). CotGS is a program of religious formation for children ages 3, 4, and 5-years-old.

The St. Ignatius Loyola Children’s Choir program is auditioning 1st through 8th graders for next season. We begin in September with online training.
Choristers participate in our liturgies and concerts, serve their parish and community, and enjoy the company of children from nearby schools. No previous experience is necessary.
Please contact Maureen Haley, Director of Children’s Choirs, at haleym@saintignatiusloyola.org to inquire about audition procedures and rehearsal times. Auditions for next season—which begins in an online format in September—are ongoing throughout the summer.

Do you feel hopeful? Maybe not every moment of every day, but in general? I think we can all agree that the knowledge that things are getting better lifts us up, even while our days have all blurred together. Even while we miss being with our friends and family; while we try to banish the fear that we or someone we love will get sick; while we worry about our financial future.
This piece Bizakodó: Hopeful (performed here by the Children's Choirs in May 2018) first appears in a music collection published in 1921. Later, the composer, Lajos Bárdos, sang it to soothe his children while they sheltered in the cellar of their apartment building in Budapest. There were no Zoom calls and no emails from family, friends, or colleagues. The year was 1945, and Nazi-occupied Budapest was under siege. One of the Bárdos children remembers others joining in the singing, creating what must have been a powerful moment of hope and solidarity in a dangerous time. Let us be lifted up by HOPE as well!

In his Wednesday, June 25th homily, Fr. O'Connell invites us to listen closely. "The voice of Jesus echoes down 2000 years. He also speaks to our time but is he heard? Is he heard with the systemic problem of our inability to hear?... Much more recently, Yogi Berra is reported to have said, 'The future is not what it used to be.' It will certainly not be what it could and should be if the voice of Jesus is not and acted upon."

Join us on Zoom as we sing our hearts out during this sing-in of hymns and psalms (Mics off, please!). Led by Michael Sheetz (Music Associate & Director of the Wallace Hall Choir and Orchestra). Singers of all ages are welcome.
