Principal Resources now available

The Colorado Department of Education is pleased to announce the launch of the Principal Resources webpage, a website that brings together internal and external resources to support principals and school leaders.

Resources for all principals - from elementary to high school and charter schools - include items related to planning for the 2020-21 school year such as the Turnaround Network’s Launching Unfinished Learning and Virtual Hiring webinar series on the COVID-19 Resources for Principals webpage.

Principals and school leaders are encouraged to visit these newly developed webpages and/or connect with one of our Principal Leadership Cross-Unit Work Group team members with any questions or ideas. Please help get the word out about these resources by sharing this information with principals and school leaders.

Educator Effectiveness

Revised Educator Effectiveness Assurances for 2020-21 now open

Districts and BOCES may submit their Educator Effectiveness Assurances for the 2020-21 school year. The opening of the assurances collection was delayed to make the necessary adjustments to support districts and BOCES working remotely. Visit the Assurances for Written Evaluation Systems webpage for details on the revised assurances process.

Beginning with the 2021-22 school year, the assurances collection will include additional changes such as the addition of Measures of Student Learning/Outcomes (MSLs/MSOs). Details regarding these changes are included on the Assurances webpage. Additionally, the Educator Effectiveness Regional Team is available to provide support on evaluation processes for districts and BOCES.

Please note that the assurances data collection link will be unavailable on Friday, July 3, due to site maintenance.

For more information, contact Carolyn Haug, director of Research and Impact, at haug_c@cde.state.co.us, or contact your Educator Effectiveness Regional Specialist.

Educator Preparation

TEACH Colorado resources available for future educators

TEACH Colorado is supporting more than 1,600 future teachers on their journey into the profession, and TEACHColorado.org has been visited more than 10,900 times since it launched in February.

TEACH Colorado is a website that ignites interest and guides people into the profession of teaching. TEACH Colorado provides customized guidance based on each candidate's unique background and allows those interested in the classroom to create a career roadmap, get one-on-one expert advice, follow a how-to guide for getting licensed, access prep program application checklists, and claim fee reimbursements toward application and testing expenses.

Not yet a TEACH Colorado partner? The benefits for local education agencies (LEAs) include the opportunity to increase the size and diversity of applicant pools through statewide exposure; grow your own alumni and paraprofessionals; and even attract out-of-state applicants. Partner LEAs will have their profiles posted on the statewide TEACH Colorado web portal, to which all Coloradans considering teaching will be directed. Email Annette at akonoskegraf@teachcolorado.org for more information.

TEACH Colorado joined five other TEACH regions for an inspiring virtual event with three of the nation’s top educators. The June 3 webinar recording of the Be the Change: The Impact of Black Teachers and How You Can Join the Profession event is now available. Sign up to meet the speakers, watch the recorded webinar and get free resources to share with those interested in becoming a teacher.

Educator Development

Model Code of Ethics for Educators resources available

Educators and administrators can access the Ethics and Educators blog that provides a space for educators to talk about professional decision-making in today’s P-12 classrooms. Most recently, the Abolishing the Discomfort blog post opens up the conversation about racism, equity and equality in the school environment. Ethics During a Pandemic is another blog post that takes a look at how the myriad of important decisions during an unprecedented crisis can direct a school district to look at its core ideological framework as a starting point.

The Ethics and Educators blog supports the work around the Model Code of Ethics for Educators (MCEE) provided by the National Council for the Advancement of Educator Ethics (NCAEE) and the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC).

A webcast recording of The Colorado Story: The Model Code of Ethics for Educators presented by Dr. Colleen O’Neil, associate commissioner of Educator Talent, also provides an opportunity to learn about the Colorado context, actions, results, challenges, and upcoming plans for continuing the implementation journey of the MCEE in Colorado.

Additional MCEE resources are available on the MCEE Resources webpage.
