Adapting to the New Normal

Summer is here and our crews are hard at work all over the North Bay, from high up on Mount Tamalpais to beneath the streets of Santa Rosa. As the pandemic continues to reshape our society, we are expanding our service model to meet the needs of our community.

Since our offices have re-opened, CCNB has implemented new safety measures and protocols to meet CDC and county requirements. This includes conducting socially distanced classes and workshops and providing additional vehicles for each work project site (to ensure drivers and passengers are not within six feet).

In the three and a half months since the shelter-in-place orders were announced in March, our team has accomplished so much. Crews have collected 25,791 pounds of recyclable materials from sites in Marin and Sonoma County, and 789 waste tires from Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, Sonoma, and Solano Counties. Our Natural Resources crews alone have worked over 23,000 hours since March 16th, 2020, providing essential fire fuel reduction and flood abatement services.

Crews have also been mobilized to support local emergency relief efforts, with corpsmembers staffing various food distribution sites in Marin County, giving food to over 13,700 people a month. CCNB’s staff is committed to adopting and enacting the best practices to meet the basic human needs of the population we serve, while continuing to provide essential environmental services to our communities.
Corpsmember Outcomes
Every six months, CCNB collects all data gathered on current and past corpsmembers in order to get an overview of the impacts of our program. The average length of time a corpsmember spends in our program is just over thirteen months, and we are excited to highlight the number of young people who transition into great jobs after their time at CCNB.

2020 Graduation Update
While we were sad to cancel our June 2020 graduation ceremony, it was necessary to keep our staff and graduates safe. We will be rescheduling a smaller ceremony in the fall for graduates and their loved ones, giving corpsmembers on the brink of graduation a little extra time to meet the graduation requirements. With that said, we cannot wait to introduce the Class of 2020 to you in a few months!
